Player Shops
« on: July 03, 2012, 05:46:11 am »
Ok so I know there was the idea brought up of having player shops. It's nice, but in the end it doesn't work because every single friggin player will post at least 100 signs advertising the player shop everywhere. That's too much.

Therefore what if we had player shops, but you could only get them for 10 bucks a pop! In other words, why not add in a donation option where a player pays 10 bucks, and gets their very own player shop!

Profit!

Well, why need to donate? Player shops are everywhere. Just set your home there, and sell stuff. I've done it before.

I agree with is, an added donation to have player shops in a special location would be quiet a nifty idea.
Quit swinging your dick around before I put a formal end to it.

I'm talking about something like a chest shop.

User sets up a chest shop, and places his/her items in it, and sets prices for those items. Then other users can come and buy items from the chest, and the money gets credited to the shop owner's account. The reason this would want to be donation only is to reduce the number of these shops, otherwise the server would fall to the fate of there being millions of signs crowding the entire map showing "My awesome shop. /home bob  for good rates!!!"

This does seem like a good idea, so we don't have to have a bunch of people advertising all the time!

Actually you kill not two, but three birds with one stone:

Bird 1: Bring in player shops. Releases Bird 2 which is the problem of people spamming signs advertising their player shops

Bird 2: Make player shops cost real life money. Say, $10 for 1 shop for a user. Less users buy shops. No more spam.

Bird 3: The most important one! By killing Bird 2 you also hit Bird 3 by raising money for the server!

The chest shop plugin that I saw worked in this manor;

You place a specifically labeled sign above a chest.  As I recall it was something like this...

Item ID
Buy:#
Sell:#
(blank or server)

In the chest you place the item specified on the sign (only 1 item type per chest).
When a player comes he clicks on the sign to buy the item.
One of the items is automatically removed from the chest and placed in the players inventory.
If there are no items in the chest, the player gets an error message saying the store is sold out.

Signs with the label {server} on the bottom were only createable by those who had permissions, and it meant the items were unlimited (and didn't require a chest).  You could also leave the Buy or Sell lines empty if the store was only Buying or Selling the item.

I think the name of the plugin, now that I think about it, was Player Shops.

Even if people have these 'donation only shops' it will not stop spam.

The reason, they have still got to advertise for it to be known.
