General Discussion / Free buildings
« on: July 21, 2012, 03:21:43 pm »
Hey all.

This was my first multiplayer server, I learned a lot, had a good time.

I've moved to a different server though, with towny and some fun, decent staff. Admittedly the staff here was a lot better, but I can place water/lava on my own there, which is coo.

Anyway no hard feelings.

If anyone wants to take over any of my buildings, that's fine with me. I'll check back a couple times, maybe I can catch someone online and give them my few protection stones and moneyz... or if you direct a mod to this thread they can probably hand it over to you.

guest world:
http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/-3194/64/-919/-1/0/0 (big underwater fields/glass zombie xp farm(lots of fun)/enchanting table)
http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/-4803/64/-1547/max/0/0 (underground small one push melon farm)
http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/-2293/64/225/-1/0/0 (the yin/yang and the building/behind it+quarry/nexus portal)

member world:
http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/346/64/-2284/-1/1/0

most of it is unprotected, so if someone wants to just move in I won't report/get mad. I'm not sure how auto-grief ban works, but ya, have a ball.

cheers.

skip to "suggestions" at the end if you don't want to read.

I dunno why you guys are arguing about "inflation" and slimeballs, lol... but ya

what's up. I'm pretty new here.
I played singleplayer (never once played creative) for a long time and never got interested in redstone/etc. I just like to build stuff/find new places (unfortunately not very possible with the live map/borders set as they are, but that's totally understandable)

I came here because it was the first non-pvp server I found, and I'm glad I did, I like it here. I've since made a lot of stuff! And the mods are very helpful. (though I would love the ability to place water *_* they are quick to fill my orders ;)

long story short: I would like money to buy protection stones, but I absolutely cannot afford them. at all. I've bought 2-3 coal stones, but only for the spawners I've found because they're breakable, and so my towers etc get griefed every so often (again yesterday) and I made an animal farm yesterday I'm pretty worried will get destroyed randomly while I'm away =[
Ok sure, I have 7 stacks of iron, but I collected that all on purpose, I want to make a roller coaster eventually and I'm going to need a lot of rails. I want to help out on the big rail project too!

I COULD sell everything I find to make some money... but I go out and mine so I can build stuff!! I'm constantly quarrying because I run out of cobblestone/glass/dirt, etc. =o which may seem silly to the large group of people with mountains of cash by now, but I do not have a mountain of cash.
Even if I did sell everything I've collected up until now it wouldn't be enough to buy a diamond ps and then I would have lost all my iron and gold and everything and be sad......

That's my 1 single problem with the server.
I was working on building melon farms (and having fun doing it) (I'm also not smart enough/don't care enough about redstone mechanics to make them automatic) and sort of saw money and building freedom as a reward for spending the time to build a farm.

IF it causes lagg, then ban them. That's fine with me. That seems entirely unrelated to removing the ability to sell pumkpins/melons though? Why don't we just make it a rule that redstone is not to be used for large projects, and automatics are a bannable offense. I think everyone can agree redstone is really a luxury and less than 1% of the mining/building aspect. Maybe here and there for mob farms, or some fun door mechanics, this and that, but we don't need the GIGANTIC chains setup for farms (I stumbled into the middle of one mining once is the only reason I know)

then again the farms are already there and people may abuse them, so if that's the only thing we can do I'll try other things, but selling stuff I mine is really... not desirable =[ I guess if I have to though.

suggestions:
cap money
outlaw big redstone mechanics (do we need them?)
outlaw automatics (mod discretion applicable case by case)
reduce protection stone costs
or
make some different ps's that are wide and flat instead of cubed protection.
ie: 51x11y51z or something to that affect.

ps: I have been getting some monsters spawn lately (will animals spawn too randomly?) and plants seem to grow a lot faster, server must be working faster!

if you want there are databases online that contain all the previous versions.

I found 5-6 cave spider spawners all relatively near BUT
if you have to be within 15 blocks to get them to spawn, I can't think of a way to connect them.... I suppose moving back and forth between the two groups and having one giant collection pit would work >: ]
but how does this arena work if you aren't close enough to everything?

Sounds like fun though! I seriously considered doing the same thing but I'd never made a spider exp farm and turned two of them into that. Not as awesome as my single zombie farm unfortunately... Wish I could find a skelly spawner!! =]

are we planning on using powered carts for anyone that wants to travel the whole span, or in time are we hoping to add powered rails *_* at maximum intervals? assuming this is raised (except for some extreme mountains maybe) I think a powered rail every so often could go a ways.... only go 4-5 straight up... I'll figure out the distance later if someone doesn't know off hand.

I have chests full of cobble, and will be getting a lot more now that I've moved into the new world. Hope I get some good spawners beneath me =D

Server News / Re: Second home available to voters

I set my new home in the member world near a place I found to build, then started building. now I wanted to set my new home inside my new home, but it says max number of homes reached if I try to reset the same name. I just did [/sethome 2] for temp starters, now it's acting like it's permanent. I suggest this be made changeable like normal /sethome

nevermind, i was introduced to /delhome command.
happy to have two!!!
thanks for new world too =D

that's what you're talking about, but not what the OP is talking about =o
that's all I meant. having railroads now is good too =]

I want to set up a coaster from space to bedrock! maybe I'll do that on Sunday, haha

it seems half the people in here are talking about a railroad now, but the thread title says "Member+" which the other half of us took to mean in the new member world...? or perhaps I am just lost and confused.

I'm excited for a fresh new landscape to exploit!
and setting up a railroad from day one would really help in the long run... we could go straight out in four directions from a point just outside of the main city that way the rails would be in the world before people started buildings in the way of the tracks.

I'm down for helping. I would agree too that the rail should be elevated, with periodic stations.

I live out in the water and probably will be in the new world, which I get to by boat if I need to move around. If there was a railroad in the way at sea level it would be a hassle to go around. If there was a railroad at all I would build a station to link off of it up to my island though ^_^

I've been trying to get as much gold as possible for powered rails, but it's just about the hardest thing to find/buy.

I played single player a lot, never built anything amazing, but I explored a lot, got tired of building dirt boxes XD

I had yesterday off and made my zombie farm into a giant glass cage so you can watch the zombie falls XD pretty hilarious. Then you can kill em with watermelon and save your sword from taking damage ;D

I also made an underground sewer system to auto collect my watermelon but it takes time to collect with the slow flow.... didn't turn out as awesome as I was hoping for.... I've been trying to get as automatic a system as possible without using sticky pistons because they seem to be in short supply. It still ended up being a pretty inventive system I'll post pics when I get home....

I'm now setting up a system that you have to walk through to collect, but it will auto break everything for me so at least you don't have to chop anything... we'll see how it goes.

Hey everyone I'm new here.
I'm new to playing online actually, I've only played single player/terraria mods, stuff like that.
I'm hooked though! The buy/sell system is great, and being able to share creations with others is awesome.

anyway I'm new so I don't have the most amazing imagination as of yet, but I've built some things and some other things, and am learning as I go here are some screen shots.

I built my pumpkin/melon farm just under the sea bed so I have endless water supply in from the ceiling =D not very grief proof, but it's my first farm and I like it.

I also built a zombie exp farm thanks to bantam and alicia's help with the water, and have since turned it almost entirely into glass :D watching the zombies fall is hilarious.

I was enjoying some of the screenshots of other people's stuff!
Would be great to get a great railway set up =]

Let me know if anyone needs a hand on a big/fun project.
