Currently listening religiously to Radiohead's new album - A Moon Shaped Pool.
The band took a new orchestral direction to rock, and it's simply beautiful. 9.5/10

Loving the interest! Does the 20th of November (Friday) sound nice? Probably around 11 PM GMT

Although I haven't been on the server for a while now, my conscription date is final - December 1st, and I thought it would be a nice thing to do if we had a get-together around a week or two before.

For me it would be almost 5 years with the people here - something I never would believe to be true and I really would like to say a nice goodbye to all of the community and summarize a beautiful time for me.

Is anyone interested for a mumble party/get-together?

By that logic, you could say the PS2 isn't dead, because it sold 155 million consoles (according to wikipedia). However, a game hasn't been released on it in 3 years (which was actually a shock to me, I expected it to be way longer ago). It's basically dead on this point (I'd estimate it as having 5% of active players compared to its peak).
That's not logic, you can't compare a PC game to a console. In people seek out better consoles, but they don't seek out better Minecraft games - Minecraft is a one of a kind game with a huge following. It would be logic if the console generation stayed at PS2, people would still be playing it.

Minecraft isn't dead, it's still enormous (65 million sales - most on the PC and third of all time after Wii Sports and Tetris - not a small feat by any means...), rather the direction of the game now is different than it was.
In the earlier years Opticraft was a trendsetter in terms of servers - in classic optical was one of the first to open a server, and not just open it but also code it himself. Being early on the curve all the time made us very successful!
Same with the SMP server. When 1.0 came out people were hooked on the survival multiplayer aspect and this was very beneficial for us, being one of the first stable servers and one of the servers that update first.
Now almost 4 years later people grew tired of the vanilla aspect of the game and are focused on different game modes and add-ons for Minecraft. Opticraft, being true to our survival game mechanic, didn't want to change (for better or worse? I really don't know) and this made people who weren't too connected grow tired of the same stuff.
Yet when the other players the left, the ones who stayed feel loyal to the community. Sure we will probably never get 70 players on at a time again, but I know for sure that the 10 that are on are amazing people. Plus, who likes 40 griefers on at a time anyways? ;)

Can't wait for all of the dedotated wam
Well there's good news, I'll be working in the panel rooms on Saturday so I might just get a chance to get in on some detonated wam. I'm hoping people don't try and replicate it 'cause they'd probably be making a fool out of themselves - hooray! Apparently Saturday evening (don't know if I'll be there or not) there's a "Minecon 2015 Live Show"... this could be interesting. Might see if they allow Agents to hang back and watch the show too, they say it shouldn't be missed. Hopefully it'll be on their livestream too so everyone who doesn't go is able to see. The schedule will be out soon.
It's gonna be such a cringefest, can't wait for all of your facepalms  ;)
