I looked things over and found a few missing/out of place blocks and fixed them. I also added one last Easter egg in Nick's house. There's now a two story, 4 room MC avatar-scale house under the stairs. That place is infested with MC avatars! 4

I think my interior work on the houses is finished. The living room of Nick's house is still incomplete, but all other rooms are done. All of the interior work of the second house is done. I also took the liberty of adding a railing on the porch and a door from the kitchen to the back yard.
Let me know if you notice anything out of place. I looked over both several times and didn't notice anything, but it's easy to get tunnel vision 5

Sure. I wouldn't mind reusing some of the furniture from the first house, though, to save some time. Does an OP have the ability to copy and place blocks?

There's already quite a bit of furniture built in the upstairs of Nick's house - beds, desks, chairs, a couch, some book cases and shelves, and a TV with a scene from Super Mario Bros. If you don't mind things looking similar in both houses some of it could be copied to speed up the build.
Some of the furniture actually has minecraft avatar-sized environments hidden inside them, complete with beds and blocks of cheese! Access into each area (including one accessible by water elevator) is hidden from casual view. 8

Thanks
Quote I could not stand building such a huge thing, I would give up halfway through and say it looks horrible. Oh, believe me - I hated this build for the first couple days. It also started out looking like, uh, a part of the male anatomy. It wasn't until I started getting detail on the outside of the spires did I start to like it. 9

I finally finished the Spires - they're in Recruit30 in the back if you want to check them out - they're pretty hard to capture appropriately in just pictures. The outer spires are all linked near their bottoms with a large circular walkway, and they're all linked to the center spires by walkways higher up. Each spire has various rooms, artwork, etc, and use a combination of stairs and water-elevators to move upward.

General Discussion / Re: what has everyone been up to since 1.0 came out and sever ios down« on: December 04, 2011, 07:43:30 pm »
I've been traveling for work a lot, but I'm also building on classic. I think I'm gonna go for crafter!

Granted you don't have to have a bed, but I've made lots of beds for decorative purposes, and I'd use a lot more wool in my builds for color and textural differences if I could get more of it. 13
General Discussion / Re: 1.00« on: November 21, 2011, 09:41:32 pm »Well you want the spawn to be amazing but it has to be simple at the same time. Remember that this is an SMP server not a creative server. I can't tell you how many times i have joined a server and gotten frustrated because the spawn was so big and too complex. SMP guests don't care about spawn as much as say people in classic. True, I've run into that problem as well. I don't think a big spawn area would be a problem, though, if there are clear instructions (and ideally a simple method) to get to an area where a new person can claim land. Eventually, as the server grows a new person might have to wander for a long time to find empty land, fighting monsters and starvation on the way. I've left servers that otherwise looked promising because I couldn't get to empty land before starving and/or getting creeper bombed. 14

I tried playing classic for a few days at first, but I couldn't ever find anyone on to judge me for a promotion to recruit. At any rate, I've seen others' builds on SMP and I'm not sure I'm in that class yet, heh. I just build a lot, and sometimes I get lucky and things work out
Personally I don't see why the entire spawn would need to be fleshed out right away, and why it couldn't change over time. The spawn is what visitors and new people see when they first log in, right?. The spawn on Opticraft classic is what got me hooked on MC - I saw that Statue of Liberty and I was just in complete awe. I think it would be great if the spawn area was large enough to showcase builds from some of the server's best crafters. I realize we could have different areas of the map for this, and everyone will have their own territory, but the ability to just wander around a bit and see a 'museum' of high quality builds would be interesting. I know there are lots of builds on the server right now that are great, but I've never seen them - and I have no idea how to get to them. Builders who get to build at spawn could post signs if they have larger builds elsewhere and invite people to port to their home to see those too. I think it would also serve to push people to build out into the rest of the map a bit. I'm not sure exactly how building will be restricted on the new server, but if people can do it, they're going to run right outside the spawn's protected area and start looking for trees to (partially) chop down. A small spawn could quickly be completely surrounded by dirt houses and floating leaves. 15
General Discussion / Re: bucket« on: November 17, 2011, 06:53:39 pm »thanks, and only admins can rank a player to trusted right? That's correct, though there's talk of eventually allowing Ops to rank a player to trusted.
