Expiring Protection Stones
« on: May 23, 2012, 03:20:29 pm »
Protection Stones are a great thing for active players who want their stuff protected, but what about those who have decided to leave the server and their PSs? There's a lot of little wood box shacks around my area that people put their free PS in and then abandoned, and I would like the space they're taking up for building. Also there are resources that have been abandoned but should be freed up, such as blaze spawners, but can't be accessed due to PSs. I have at times been trapped on ledges due to a bad fall that I could not get off of due to PSs preventing block placement so I could build a bridge, a severely annoying issue.

What I suggest is that there be a expiration date on stones, such that if a player does not log in for 3 months, then their PSs stop working (until they log in again), that way people can use potentially abandoned material. The stones can still only be moved by a mod or the owner.

This actually sounds like a good idea. It would involve modifying the Precious Stone plug in code I believe.

I also like the sound of this idea! :) I know of many houses that have empty users but PS's inside...It would be great to implement this but i believe it would be very difficult to code...And also what would happen to the blocks and materials inside the PS area once it 'expires' Would it become vulnerable to greif and get stripped of its value by Users or will it disapear along with the PS...Just curious  ???

I think it should warn you 1 month in advance an in that time you could use /PS update?
I'm so awesome...

I dont think it would be difficult.

I know nothing at all about coding, but something along the lines of:

After 3 months set PS value=0

Wouldn't be hard

I feel this is a good idea for those that have small areas they protect. Some players have huge areas. So when the ps runs out what would you do to make it work again buy a new one? If so I don''t like this, if not well I fell it is great.

The idea is the stones time limit is reset whenever you log in automatically.

That is not something that we can do. It would require the plugin developers to make such changes to the plugin, and there is not enough demand to make a change such as that. If we could find another server or forum (or multiple) that request the same changes, that would make things different-- however, that's not likely going to happen.

Long story short -- We are NOT the PreciousStones developers, so we have NO control over the plugin itself

I think it would be easier to just have a mod/op remove them if the person has been gone for a while.

This could be a perfect idea your ps and all the stuff it's protecting disappears after 3 months at 1 month it would send u a msg to your email address that u registered with if u did register and the 2nd month another msg sent and at 3rd months a final msg sent. But if u haven't registered it could when they log back into the game warn them.

it's not a bad idea, and as far as I know the precious stones plugin is open source.

we could implement it, but it would be pretty low on the priority list.

I am not sure that this would be fair to players who have just taken a brake from the game. I would agree if the said owner
where band from the game.
