I was playing at around 10 AM CST today, and Leganie was advertising free stuff at his /home. So I went there and, guess what happened! I instantly fell to my death. This should be expected from 7 year olds, not moderators.

That is a bit odd. It seems like no one has discussed this. Make sure you PM a staff member to help clarify this.

I have talked to him, it was a glitch. There was a floor beneath his home but for some reason people kept falling through.

Ok. I didn't even have any items with me.
Oh, and,
Possible answer: unloaded chunks
damage is calculated server-side (to negate the effect of client-side mods), so unloaded chunks do not damage you, even if you fall into the void.
Sorry, Leganie.

Sometimes, if under of your house's floor is air, you will fall instead of landing on the floor. It is a /sethome glitch. Also, if the house is set while building the floor, then this is more likely. The reason for this glitch is, the /sethome command tries to land the players on the best available y coordinates(searches only 4-5 blocks up and down where you /sethome i believe) and if the y(where you sethome) is occupied by a block(can be the floor by an odd glitch) and there is a 2 block high roof, then you will spawn in the middle of the air. The best is to fill under the floor with blocks, that way this glitch won't happen.

Check it out! ;)

Another glitch is if you set your /home on half slabs you'll fall through. :/
