Hello, I was just banned from opticraft for "greifing" even though I did not. I was cutting down a tree but there was a grief trap that I didnt realize was there about five to ten blcks away. The game autobanned me and I would please like to have the ban lifted. Thank you!

You have no ban on the classic server and your last loggin was 34 weeks ago there.  Considering you were banned while cutting down a tree I assume you were banned from the SMP server.  Moved to SMP Ban Appeals.

How fitting that it's my grief trap that banned you, and I'm the one responding.

You broke *at least* five (5) blocks of my (Benwin2) grief trap. The ban duration is set for one week (7 days) and cannot be shortened.

huh? I didn't break five blocks, I broke one and I was auto banned. I was only cutting down a tree in the forest, I had no intention of greifing whatsoever. Please, I have never griefed, I was only cutting down a tree in the forest. You can ask my friend mrredstonejr, I would never grief. Are you sure five blocks were destroyed? What damage was done?

The grief traps are cumulative.  Grief isn't forgiven after a certain period of time.  So you could have broken 4 previously, and the one block you broke while you were out was the 5th.  It's 5 blocks in total, not 5 blocks at one time.  Thus, you did break 5 blocks on the grief traps.  Just not all at once.

I never remember breaking any other grief traps, but ok, I suppose. oh well, I was having fun. But I understand, even if I don't realize i'm greifing, I still have to suffer the consequences. It just seems a little harsh for cutting down a random tree in the forrest though, but oh well. I can finish my project another time.

That's usually what happens in these cases.  Nobody remembers every block they broke, even me, so these kind of surprises do happen.  Stick it out, it's only 7 days.  Your stuff isn't going to vanish, and you'll be back on the server building in no time.
