Some very "wealthy" homes have other purpose than the sale.
You can buy homes from the players that build and sell.
Moreover, you can rent homes. THis is better.
Further, you can gather material and to build one on your own.

In order to see your cash balance, type /bal or /balance.
In order to pay a player press /pay <name> <amount>

Look around for a sign outside, see who owns it, contact them in game or here and ask them how much it is.
