Pistons getting stuck 'open'
« on: November 24, 2012, 12:07:42 pm »
I found a few threads on the forum that talked about pistons getting stuck open. I encountered a similar problem today, and I think that I may have figured out what was causing it (Rather than necro-post on one of these threads, I decided to create a new topic with my findings).

I realized that I had a protection stone that covered the square that the piston extended into, BUT NOT the square that the piston's base sat on. This caused it to become 'stuck' after it extended. Removing the PS solved the problem!

Is this, perhaps, a problem that could be fixed so that players don't just have to work around the glitch?

I've had this problem when trying to make a elevator and concluded it was do to server lag. Also redstone glitches and does the same thing if you lay down enough in a line for lighting.

Whether or not it was already known, it sure did cause me a headache! I thought that I would post it here in the off-chance that someone, somewhere down the road ran into the same problem.

A Protection stone is part or the problem, but there are 2 different instances. Ive had it happen on other servers before. its been a glitch in the game that if the piston crosses from chunk to chunk, it could glitch and stay open.
So some of the case we get of this may not be able to be fixed.

Yes if redstone is placed after a ps is placed then the redstone will not update. So the quick fix to this is to pick up and then put the ps back down
im so sorry for this. my cock had a huge erection and it made an unpredictable growth and hit my keyboard. and then it spelled out a bad word that somebody banned me for. dont worry, my cock is being severely punished.
