Do this:1. download optifine.2. go into .minecraft with %appdata% (or library>application support>minecraft if you're on a mac).3. go into the "bin" folder and locate your .jar4. open the .jar with winrar or 7zip.5. open the optifine folder as well.6. drag all of the files from the optifine folder to the .jar7. close everything8. PLAY!
oh, keep a copy of your worlds in another folder.then delete the entire .minecraft

When you delete and re install the .minecraft folder delete the save file there and replace it with the save file you had saved somewhere else.
Is anyone here forgetting about the whole "Force Update" thing?Doing force update will get you a fresh .jar file with the META-INF file in it...
When you open up your .jar file, do you see the .zip file that says optifine?
