ganging up
« on: January 05, 2013, 03:56:18 am »
Ive noticed in many cases on the forums, someone will post something most people dont agree with. Someone will post a reply against that which is fine, but then about 5 other people will give the same response over and over, making the original poster feel worthless, insignifigant and unimportant. I mean this is opticraft, basically the home to the nicest people on minecraft, and if people are mean like that, we loose that rep. I will not bring up any names, but without me realizing it i have been predator and prey. I feel if people continue to relist negative things to a player, they should have a warning then a temp forum ban if they do it again.

I don't agree to the temp forum ban unless they do it a lot. Nick has already said that we need to relaxe more on the forums and be more open to suggestions.

I don't agree with this. Just grow a thicker skin. This is not a big deal at all.

Like that? :p
Lol... be this an emotional appeal; a ban for such a case is unnecessary. :p
The point of the suggestions and discussions is to discuss it clearly, you have to be prepared for many different opinions and perspectives on a topic.

Well this certainly happens a lot for both sides of any issue.

Though I would argue its just most people hop on the bandwagon to up their post count.
You see it a lot in the various application forums to where people arbitrarily toss around their support in one word posts...
Even forum mods do it when they take advantage of posts like "locked on request"

All of its rather uneccesary as it adds no new or pertinent info to the discussion and honestly should put to an end...
Unfortunately it's not really a crime to reiterate a pointless statement.

So, since apparently the number and stars next to your name define how cool you are, I don't see it ending any time soon....
I'm Much more smarter admin than whoever banned me.

But my comment is constructive criticism. read my whole comment and I say I do not agree with the banning part. I then went on to say that nick3306 already said this is happening to much.

Well, maybe not a forum permaban, but like a day or hour long.
And after warnings.

It's called discussing/arguing.  We learn things from each other like that.

It's called discussing/arguing.  We learn things from each other like that.

Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't.
If you just say "I don't agree with this" ,without telling us why, we learn absolutely nothing.
Worse, as Goalie said, some people (mostly younger kids) could feel insecure and insignifigant.
Therefore they'll possibly won't post anything anymore in the future, which isn't a good thing, because opticraft is open to everyones suggestions and comments.

However. This "ganging up" has always existed on opticraft.net and always will be. I don't think giving bans will do anything. It also would be too hard to draw the line. When is someone "ganging up" or just sincereley sharing his/hers opninion?

Tiggy shared an interesting opinion that it is because of the postcounts. This probably is a factor but to be fair I think the main reason is because people want to look good. It's mainly recruits/ trusted who are aiming for op/mod who are guilty of acting in this way. They'll just repeat the opinion of a mod/op who has posted before them.

Though, you shouldn't take notice of these comments. If I see a post like "I agree/I disagree" without an eplanation I tend to ignore it. Grow a though skin and focus on the possitive comments, or the negative comments who have an interesting opinion to share.

It's just human nature. This kinda thing is found everywhere. Gain what you can from the positive and negative arguments to make your original argument better.
It builds character too :p

I honestly don't know why this is coming up. I don't think a forum banned I needed. Word of advice grow tougher skin. Don't let this kind of thing affect you.

I've had people be offended by my arguments in the past, when they weren't supposed to be offensive. Gavin threatened to ban me, but later submitted that it would have been a bad choice. Because of this, I cannot support the temporary forum ban suggestion. I think they should only be banned if they are actually being rude. Downplaying suggestions is not rude.
