Strip Mining
« on: January 21, 2013, 01:25:05 pm »
Hi, I'm planning to do some strip mining. The only problem is, I don't know where to mine. So anyway, here's a list of what I need.
-workers
-a large plot of land
-a bunch of diamond picks
-some rails, powered rails, and detector rails

Thanks!

(Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. I'm kind of new to the forum...)

Here is what I recommend you do for stripmining.

Get a boatload of torchest (like at least 3 stacks of them)

Dig a 3 by 3 hole down about 20 blocks.

Place blocks to act as stairs, or better yet, actual stairs/steps blocks so you can go up and down the hole

Use torches where needed so the poor lighting doesn't strain your eyes.

Dig a 1 wide by 2 block high hallway going straight in one direction for about 40 blocks

At the end of that hallway make a 90 degree turn and mine 20 or more blocks in that direction. Mine any ores you see along the way.

Once you've gone a ways, walk back to the first hallway you made, and make another hallway, but giving two blocks width of space between this next hallway and the first one.

In the end you should have one hallway with a bunch more hallways coming off of it. As you mine, simply mine up any and all ores you see along the way.

Thanks, Chief, but what I had in mind was something similar to what another person did. I've forgotten their name, but a post at the back of the project forums, what whatstheirname did, is how I was planning on mining.
Thanks for the advice, though.

All that I can say is not to dig in random directions. If you do, mods will be suspicious of X-raying.

Thats completely untrue. We can tell the difference between random mining and xray, it's very obvious.

Though I think this qualifies as a project, I could be wrong.

Yeah, I agree that this isn't a project, but at least OP got the info he needed. Really strip mining can be easily done on your own. A couple hours and you get a ton of things!
