Game Guru, please help me!
« on: June 26, 2013, 01:36:01 am »

As you might have noticed, i have been offline trying to start creating a game.
the thing is i've recently learnt the original game creating software i was going
to use wouldn't work for the type of game i want to create. If anyone knows
any good 2D game making software, can you please tell me? Thanks.

There is Greenfoot. Its a really simple version of java. Theres a decent community that can help you with coding or bug fixes for your game. I believe it still comes with a tutorial and sample levels. Havent used it in about a year but from what I remember, it was user friendly. Hetir website has a bunch of free games/scenarios where the code is open-source. I believe their website is www.greenfoot.org

well here's the thing...

are you trying to code the game by hand?

or....

are you trying to build it in more of a level editor/drag and drop fashion.....

if you want to code the game and build everything that way then here is a list of many game engines both free and proprietary all organized in a little chart showing some basic info about each:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_game_engines

however if your trying to go the easy route you could try Game Maker:

Tiggy is right, if you dont want to do any coding, gamemaker is the way to go, it is surprisingly good.

I've used it successfully in the past and I was 11 years old, it's a really nice and simple software.
