Hackers and other cheaters

I felt i needed to point some things out to the general public
about the definitions of the words "hackers etc" , since alot mess them up
feel free to correct me if im not right at some point

first of all you have the glitchers and bug abusers, and no there not the same
glitches are program errors i.e. going throught walls, graphics not loading etc
bugs are ingame fault, i.e. getting 10 diamonds when mining just 1
they are exploiting game bugs, and have absolutely nothing to do with hacking

then you have the cheaters that install mods
i.e. the xray cheaters you often see getting banned
these mods are not made by them nor do they know anything about how they function
for that reason they cant be called hackers, these guys are called script kiddies

and then you have the actual hackers that have the knowledge of breaking security measures
these are the actual bad guys, that everyone fears of
but the point is, these guys have no interest in hacking a stupid pixel game to troll around

the only hackers that would throw a shot at mc, are the newbies hackers without alot of knowledge
yet to break a servers security measures, you need to be very good at it, and by the time you get there
yet again why hack a pixel game, just aint going to happen

last of all, "hacking accounts", these words are used way to often
yet AGAIN the actual hackers with enough knowledge to break into your personal pc have absolutely no interest in mc nor there players
for that reason alone, im pretty sure that basicly everyone that said "my account got hacked" is lieing
possible reasons for account loss, are script kiddies that use tools to scan for your passwords
yet script kiddies cannot acces your pc, and can only do this, if you download there tools, the same way you download a virus
or they could make a fake site, and ask you to put your info there
the second possible reason is an irl person, that got your password and decided to troll you
and ofcourse you have the people that randomly guess passwords, but as long yours is not 12345 you have nothing to fear

so now you know,
if anyone reffers to it as hackers, or if anyone claims he is one, there lieing or just not understanding it

I disagree.

In the same way, Operators are not /op-ped, and Administrators do not do the admin for the server, hacking is a colloquial term for this sort of thing.

Glitchers have never been accused of hacking, however:
"Hackers" do exist on Minecraft. Who do you think creates all the hacked clients?
If we banned anyone using a mod for personal benefit as "Script Kiddies", nobody would understand.

For this reason, I think we should just keep on calling these players by the same names we always have.

Believe it or not, it trully isnt too hard to find a list of everything you need to crack accounts. But the odds of a random cracker using an application to do things for them would be odd. Most people like that have a list of like 10 common passwords. If your password isn't 123456, qwerty, or password, then your account shouldn't get hacked. Even if it somehow was, the odds of them coming on this server are 1/500. So, this situation probably hasnt happened to more than 5 people. Cracking general accounts wouldnt be too hard, but chances are you wont get hacked.

you have a valid point there, yet i think hacking a singleplayer mode of a game,
is something far easyer then a multiplayer server
those are the "newbie hackers" as i call them, they pose no real thread

true, yet banning an xray user as "xray hacker" is wrong since he didnt hack anything, he simply downloaded a mod
just put "using xray mod" as reason

By the way, I realise my post may have come off as overly critical. I totally agree with everything you said, but just not in this server's case.

what i was saying was, there are programs that take large amounts of usernames and a list of the 10 most comnon passwords and try them together.

You're forgetting the human need to toss around "slang" statements.  Just because someone says they're account was "hacked" doesn't mean they actually believe some hacker launched an attack on them.  The slang term for an account being hacked is simply that someone used it without authorization.  It could have been their brother sitting down and using a saved password.  It could have been a friend hopping on the computer while they were in the washroom.  They'll always state that their "account was hacked".  It's become a slang phrase, and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it.
