Before making a support thread, and to reduce the amount of duplicate support threads we receive, we ask you to find your problem in the following list. If your problem isn't on the list, or if you feel it wasn't answered to your satisfaction, feel free to then create a support post explaining your situation.

How do I play on Opticraft?

To connect to Opticrafts SMP Server, you must have purchased the full version of Minecraft, and have downloaded the Minecraft client.

On the Multiplayer screen of the Minecraft client, you will need to enter the following server address to either 'Direct Connect' or 'Add Server': smp.opticraft.net
Opticraft is a survival server, explore, build, and have fun!

Why can't I connect to Opticraft?

If you're having problems connecting to Opticrafts SMP Server, there are a few things you can check.
- Are you having the same issues when attempting to connect to other servers?
- Are you running a different Minecraft version to Opticrafts?
- Is the server having scheduled downtime?

Most of the time this is a fault on Mojangs end, in which case Opticraft isn't the only server having the issues.
If you ever come across a Minecraft login issue, it's best to check if Mojang are undergoing any problems at the time, this can be checked here: http://help.mojang.com/

Why can't I connect to minecraft.net?

If you are unable to connect to minecraft.net, Mojang may be undergoing some issues.

I accidentally updated Minecraft and can't connect, what do i do?

If you've updated your Minecraft client to a version not compatible to Opticrafts, and you haven't saved the previous minecraft.jar version, then you will have to wait patiently for Opticraft to update to the same version.

We're sorry to hear that your Minecraft account has been compromised.
Unfortunately, here at Opticraft we can't do anything to get your Minecraft account back.

You will need to contact Mojangs customer support if you wish to retrieve your account.

I was banned, what do I do?

If you've been banned on the SMP server, you will need to create a ban appeal.

'You are connecting from a known proxy' What does this mean?

This means your IP address is flagged by a spam-monitoring website. You are likely trying to connect through a proxy to the server, but false positives do happen.
This is a security measure which was put in place to prevent bots using proxies to connect to the server.

If you're receiving this message, there's nothing to worry about. The only thing needed on your behalf is to create a ban appeal explaining your situation, the rest will be sorted and your ban will be lifted.

In-game help:

There's no staff members online and I need help, what do I do?

Occasionally there will be no staff members online, in which case all you can do is wait patiently.
If you create a /helpop ticket with no staff members online, the ticket will still be available to any staff member that connects.

When I speak in-game, no one can hear me, why's that?

It appears you're speaking in the local channel. When speaking in this channel, only players within 250 blocks can hear you.
To change chat channels, see the following commands:
/ch local - Chat in the local channel. (only players within 250 blocks can hear you)
/ch global - Chat in the global channel. (server main channel)
/ch trade - Chat in the trade channel. (channel to host auctions and trade items)

My protection stone is broken, what do I do?

If your protection stone is no longer protecting an area, you'll need to contact an Operator in-game and explain the situation.
To prevent this from happening in the future, there is a guideline to follow when placing a protection stone:
Do not type '/ps on/off' as this will disable the field of any protection stones placed.

Why can't I place water or lava?

Only players with the Trusted rank are able to place water. This is for safety precautions.
Only members of staff are able to place lava. If you wish to have lava placed, send a /helpop ticket in-game and a staff member will happily assist you.

Why can't I set a /home [name]?

In order to set your second home, you need to have voted for Opticraft.

If you're 100% sure you've entered your Minecraft name correctly upon registering, you will need to manually update your account to sync with the SMP member registration script.

Why am I not receiving my diamonds for voting?

There are a few things that can cause this.
- Did you enter your Minecraft username correctly when voting?
- Is your inventory full?

If your inventory is full, clear at least 1 slot and reconnect to the server. The diamonds will then be sent to you.

Why wont my new buildings appear on the live map?

If your new buildings aren't appearing on the live map, it's because the live map takes several hours to update.
Check the live map every so often, and your building should be available there soon.

How do I upload a screenshot?

Uploading a screenshot is easy, just follow these steps:
- Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard - this will capture your screen and save it to a 'clipboard'.
- Open Paint or any other image editing program you have.
- Press CRTL V to paste your Print Screen. Then save the image.
- Upload the image to an image sharing site (imgur.com, photobucket.com, imageshack.us etc)
- Use the BBCode (message boards & forums) code in your post.

How do I then use it as my profile picture?
After completing step 4, go to Profile >> Modify Profile >> Forum Profile Information >> I have my own pic:
Then enter the Direct Link of your image.

Why wont my post count increase?

Post count is disabled in the Offtopic forum. So any posts made there won't count towards your post count.

What is IRC?

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's a multi-user, multi-channel chat system.
In Opticrafts case, the Opticraft IRC channel is liked to Opticrafts SMP Servers in-game chat, allowing IRC and Minecraft users to chat.

If you wish to connect to the IRC channel, use the following information:
Server: http://rizon.net/chat
Channel: opticraft-smp

What is Mumble?

Mumble is a voice chat application which allows groups of people to chat via a server.
If you wish to connect to the Mumble server, use the following information:

I know that, but distributing any versions of the minecraft.jar is illegal.
And most of the solutions that people have, are indeed, distributing the .jar's.

Which is why 'wait patiently' is the answer I used for that question.

mojang usually has the jar on their servers somewhere - i can't look it up now, but it's worth checking in to.

Well yeah, if there are previous .jars somewhere which have been supplied by Mojang themselves, then I'll update that part of the faq.

so I'm not the only one who noticed there's not a ton of 'help me' topics all over the place anymore

I also realized that under the ps help, there was nothing about crouching while placing pstones. was that fixed or was it forgotten?

That issue has, indeed, been rectified.

Just to note: If you are attempting to play Opticraft via your web browser and you are constantly getting errors or the game is simply not starting up, please not that In-Browser gameplay is currently broken (although this issue may be a hit-and-miss for some people).

Currently, the only recommendation is to play via the downloadable executable client, found at Minecraft.net
