Members are promoted ingame once they supply their minecraft usernames in the registry. If you are not member, it's probably because you entered your minecraft username incorrectly.
Also, you have to activate your account through your E-Mail
If it's not this, please post a reply with what the problem is and the admin will look into it. Thanks!

Wait, you need to upgrade your account to be able to play on servers and such. But if you did, and it's not working, then there may be a problem. And if you don't want to buy an account, you can just play on classic.

I believe you're stuck in Local channel.
You would have to type /ch g or /ch help to view the commands.
That is if you're playing on the SMP server.

if what henz told you to do doesnt work then i suggest making a new email and trying that. If that doesnt work then you just arent looking in the right places, it worked for 26k other people on the site
