Anybody good with Desktops?
« on: August 13, 2011, 02:01:02 am »
just been having a look at building my own PC
It seems everything is easy to sort, until it comes down to the PSU

With these specs :
Motherboard :Asus P8H67-V LGA1155 Intel H67 DDR3 ATX (B3 Stepping)
CPU :AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz Black Edition AM3 Socket L2/L3 8MB
GPU :XFX ATI Radeon 6770 HD 850MHz 1GB DDR5 PCI-Express HDMI
RAM :2 X 8GB DDR2 1333Mhz
HDD :500gb Idle 7200rpm
DVDRW : LiteOn 24x Int. DVDRW Black SATA + S/W

And if i missed anything, just say, and ill edit it
Currently i have a 500W PSU in mind, but weather that would be enough i dont know, but i do know its unlikely to go over 650-700W

Your processor WILL NOT fit in your motherboard. Your motherboard is a socket 1155 (intel) while your processor is a socket AM3 (AMD)

And you ordered WAY to much ram. Unless you are rendering or hosting a server you will not need anymore than 6gb of ram.

As for your power supply, the minimum required for your graphics card is 550W so i would go with a 650W power supply.

By the way, what case are you going to buy?

EDIT: Also your motherboard require DDR3 ram and you have DDr2 ram up there.

I bow down to your computer knowledge awesomness.  ;)

Edit: No sarcasm intended. I like to know and even read this sttuff as it fascinates me, unfortunatly i only know very little about the internal hardware of computers  :-\  ;)

You sir saved me from a Major DERP
By the way, what case are you going to buy?
That was the reason for The 500W, it just happened to come with the Case, which is this

but ill see about that motherboard :P
And theres more Hurp to go with that Durp, the 8GB, just because i didnt know about the motherboard supporting 3 ddr3 slots
But this one does

So for a final check, if you find any problems with this, then notify me please
Spec:
3x2GB ddr3 1600mhz RAM
650W PSU
GPU
CPU
CPU fan
Tower
HDD
WiFi adaptor
Sound card
I guess thats all i can think of ATM (3:30AM 0_0)

Well the motherboard you have there now is a micro ATX motherboard which I would not recommend if you are going to be using an aftermarket CPU cooler since there is a good chance the ram will be too close the the CPU socket for the cooler to fit.

By the way, a new motherboard means you will have to reinstall windows, do you have a copy of windows?

Ya that will work, just remember to install the cpu cooler you are buying before you screw the motherboard into the case. The first time I built a computer i learned that the hard way.

Not even close, It didnt even bend, i got this cpu cooler though. Beware, cpu coolers are notorious for coming with terrible directions, so if you get stuck, youtube will help lol.

It is actually very simple when you take the time to learn all the parts.
