By the way I removed my post, your post made mine look stupid haha.
They can also be bypassed by digging around it then placing the blocks back when you're done.
I think the best move might be to just update to 1.8, retain the 1.7.3 map until 1.9.

Everybody: You can make doors so that redstone does not open/close it. Try typing /lwc ingame and reading what it says.
