Just dig all the way down and you can easily get bedrock.

just wanted to join in on the shouting =3 but yeah, i find it best to just dig a 5 wide stairway straight to bedrock

I don't try to dig down to bedrock. Alot of lava. so  I just dig till about lv 10-20 to get ores

hahaha i always find the top layer of bedrock to be profitable :)
i find loads of diamond, redstone, sometimes iron, and too much coal
to know what to do with hahaha XD
you just gotta have quick reflexes when you see lava come crawling towards you

and thats y i got all the diamond from muhnator's mine. N FYI's digging straight down gives u NO escape route from lava....
PS:who were u again crimson and where is your house in opticraft beta? I m online very often sometimes helping newbs by giving free iron pickaxe, letting them stay a night and recomended housing, etcc etc but i nvr see u online before xD
