Need help with Stereo mix!

Hey so on XP I used to play stereo mix on msn and steam no worries but it doesn't work now for some reason.
I am now on Win7 and the Win7 messenger, and the new steam chat stuff.
I set it so stereo mix is set to record, Steam shows that it is actually sending... But the person doesn't recieve it (Steam are having problems with the new chat stuff so it might just be them), but MSN doesn't even let me have the option of setting it to record. I go into the setup for audio and video and the "recording" option is greyed out, which means I can't change it from default to custom!

I googled it but don't find much about it. Anyone here know the way to fix it?

Make sure you downloaded the stable version and also make sure if it is compatible with your 32 or 64 bits

To know if you are on 32 or 64 bits
Go to My computer (Computer)
And right click the space
Then click properties
Scroll down and you will find it
Or you can right click the program and click
Troubleshoot compatibility
Then wait til it loads then click troubleshoot program then
tick the first one which is "The program worked in earlier versions of windows but won't install or run now"
Then click next
And choose the old windows version you used to have
For example  "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"
Then click next then click start program wait till it loads and click save then quit

Well the MSN that is on Winxp is different to the one Win7 uses so I don't think that would work, I will try it later on. With steam I will try it too but I like I said they have been having trouble with the new chat they put in or something.
