Uploading Screenshots onto Forum
« on: June 21, 2015, 03:32:31 am »
Okay, so I've seen quite a few people not know how to upload screenshots to the forums, so I thought Id make a post showing how I'd do it since I dont think theres any posts about it. This is only for Windows and Linux, if anyone knows how to do it on a mac, please let me know!

Step One:
Use F2 to take screenshots.

Step Two:
Go to imgur.com, and click on the big blue button in the top corner that says "upload images". You'll get something that looks like this:
(click to show/hide)

Click "browse your computer".

Step Three (Windows Only):
(click to show/hide)

Step Three (Linux Only):
(click to show/hide)

Step Four:
Search for the picture that you want, click it, then click "Open". If you would like to upload more than one screenshot, hold the ctrl key while clicking the pictures, so that you can select more than one.
(click to show/hide)

Step Five:
Once it uploads and takes you to the image, you should see this on the right of it:
(click to show/hide)

Look for where it says "BBCode (message boards & forums)", and copy the text under it, then just paste it onto the forums here. Should look something like this:
Code: [Select]
[img]http://i.imgur.com/xhYvXDk.jpg[/img]
Step Six:
This is for if you would like to edit the size a bit, since screenshots tend to be too big for the forums (this part is optional, though it looks much cleaner):

For example this:
Code: [Select]
[img]http://i.imgur.com/xhYvXDk.jpg[/img]
would look like this:
(click to show/hide)

Too big right?

Change the link slightly, as I did in the example.
Code: [Select]
[img width=800 height=600]http://i.imgur.com/xhYvXDk.jpg[/img]
(click to show/hide)

And there you go!

The process for Linux is essentially the same. The only difference is the save location.

This applies to Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, and other derivatives

You will eventually end up at "/home/username/.minecraft/screenshots" Here's how to get there:

Navigate to your home directory. It should be "/home/username/" Its the one with the little house next to it in the file browser
Hit Ctrl + H. Hidden files are now visible.

There should be a folder called ".minecraft"
inside this folder is a folder called "screenshots" this is where your screenshots are.
Upload them as your would normally

Feel free to edit this into the original post

Hope this proves helpful

Kag's right, but as I have found with linux - and possibly with windows - is that when it says "Screenshot saved as blahblah" you're able to click the link as you would an internet link, which directly takes you to the save location. From there, when you upload the images you need only follow the directory back up the tree.

I knew this, but didn't think of using it here... genius! inb4 "cannot click link" because the player has links disabled :P

if anyone knows how to do it on a mac, please let me know!

Theres 2 ways you can do it.

1st Method

Step 1:
Press Command + Shift + 3 to take the screen shot.

Step 2
Go to imgur.com, and click on the big blue button in the top corner that says "upload images". Then click "Browse Your Computer". Click "Desktop" and the screen shot should be called "Screen Shot (date/time)".
Should look something like this:
(click to show/hide)

From there on its the same as Windows/Linux

2nd Method

Step 1:
Hold fn and f2 to take the screen shot.

Step 2
Go to finder and press Command + Shift + G then enter "~/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/screenshots". Drag the screen shot onto the desktop.

Step 3
Go to imgur.com, and click on the big blue button in the top corner that says "upload images". Then click "Browse Your Computer". Click "Desktop" and find the screenshot that you placed here.
Should look something like this:
(click to show/hide)

From here on its the same as Windows/Linux
