East town (surrounding area) looks awful.

So you want glass, your gonna need sand, where to go? East town!

This would be the likely place most people will go as it is the easiest, the only problem with that is the place looks like a bomb has exploded there,I'm currently building a underwater house in this area not far from spawn.

I have only ever been on 2 previous servers ( Only started playing 2 - 3 months ago ) then I found a good one Opti.
Anyway, one server had a /warp sand where people could get sand, and the sand areas in build areas were not allowed to be dug up for no reason.
The /warp Sand area could just be rolled back when it get so bad as no homes or builds would be affected.

Something like this would make east town look a whole lot more inviting, a sign could be added at east town saying that if sand is wanted to warp to /warp sand, or buy the sand/glass from the market.

I know it's a SMP server but I really think it needs something like this to keep East Town looking at all inhabitable.

Before the 1.2 update we could easily regenerate the areas but now we have to place the sand or cuboid an area, which looks un-natural. Anyway we can work hard to keep them looking the best they can but it takes a lot of work.

At least once a week I go to that area and Undo actions to repair it the best i can... but One person can always do so much... I've kinda been wanting a rank Like "Landscaper", or "Terraformer" Someone whose soul job is to use world edit to repair area like east town, and north town when the areas are totally obliterated by grief.
Sometimes life sucks.... but then you see a picture of Bowsette and everything gets better.

Well we used to just regen them, but we can no longer do that. When I get home ill just cuboid them back in.

It would regen the area using the 1.2 seed (not 1.0/1.1 that the server was generated on), making that area look out of place.
(as I had previously said)

East town was created in the 1.1 world in the Desert biome-- Now, in the 1.2.3 map, the East Town is technically overlapping the Ocean biome. If we did a regen of those chunks, it would regenerate as an ocean, which would look out of place.

For now, cuboids would be the proper course of action.

I know alot of it is greif, as alot of doors are just stood there where houses used to be.
But alot is from genuine players who are in need of sand for glass, so its not only greifers you are fixing but people who want glass.
Just a shame there isn't a seperate area where sand can be dug and easily regenerated.

I guess just expanding east towns boundaries would fix this issue

Hey Peeps,

If there's a position for "grounds keeper" I'd like to apply.  I agree on the "dug out" areas near initial spawn points and myself want to repair the damage as a movement to adding fresh looks to areas.

Just my 3 cents worth but up for the task.

As of right now there is no such position, just mods and above do it when they have time, and with the recent growth of popularity they have less time.

I don't usually agree with many ideas, but this one isn't to bad.
The only problem would be giving the 'ground keeper' the required powers without being as powerful as a mod.
