Stone generator approval
« on: March 21, 2012, 11:39:45 pm »
Hey, guys! I recently started playing on Opticraft and thus far have really enjoyed my experience. So thank you, donators and operators, for the experience.

Yesterday I decided to build a hidden door using sticky pistons attached to smooth-stone blocks. I managed to get all the redstone working and decided to make my input signal be destroying a particular stone block. In other words, I break a stone block and the door opens. I have made this kind of door before on my own server and decided to resolve the issue of manually replacing the destroyed block by using a piston to push a stone block back into place as well as a smooth-stone generator to regenerate the block. However, upon requesting a mod to place a water and lava source block in my house, I was informed that such a generator was not allowed.

I can understand why generators are not permitted. However, my intention is to use this device solely to create a new block for my door whenever I choose to open it. I will only use it whenever I want to open the door and in fact cannot even harvest the dropped blocks from it, since they fall into a pit.

So why is this secret door so important to me? Well, for two reasons. First of all, I was griefed shortly after I had built the larger portion of my house and, being new to the server, did not know what to do. I asked everyone if mods would help or if I was supposed to just pay for the damages myself. Of course, I was ignored (drowned out by all the other messages, I assume), so I just repaired it myself. This was not a pleasant experience, so I decided that the best way to protect my most valuable possessions is to hide them, hence the secret door.
The second reason is it's just plain cool. Seriously, I like having a rather small house with tons of secrets stowed inside. It just makes the game more satisfying for me.

So, to sum it all up, I would appreciate someone allowing me to possess a smooth-stone generator for the sole purpose of operating a hidden door. I can understand the decision if it happens to be "no," but I believe I will understand it a great deal if it turns out to be "yes."

Thanks,
K_Boom

I understand the griefing problem you have, and there is actually a solution. While mods can fix your grief at no cost, you can also choose to place a protection stone (a special block that has the ability to protect a certain 'zone' from any type of damage, especially griefers). There are currently 3 types of protection stones, (the coal, lapis and diamond protection) and they can all be bought on the right side of the market (type /warp market to get there). They are slightly expensive, but when you can buy them, they are definitely effective. If you'd like to learn more about protection stones, go here: http://www.opticraft.net/index.php/topic,7472.0.html

Also, I am sorry you were ignored. The chat is constantly filled with messages and sometimes, mods can't always see them all. However, if you really have a griefing problem in the future, feel free to type /helpop (insert message here) without the parenthesis. Its a command that sort-of PMs the Operator about your problem. The text appears in a color different than the one from chat (I think its red or something) so Operators are more likely to see your problem in the future.

As for your actual stone generator problem, I cannot really help you. If a mod feels it is not allowed, then he is probably right. However, I'm pretty sure there are simpler redstone contraptions to solve your "replace-stone block" problem. I'm not so great at redstone contraptions, but there are many players that love redstone, and if you ask around, maybe someone can help you build a different contraption.

Anyways, I hope I helped! ;D

Hey! Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I figured my request is a bit... unorthodox, but I'd say it's worth a shot to save 3 hours of work. I did know about protection stones, they're just a bit on the expensive side so if I wanted to protect every square inch of my house, I would probably be spending nearly $200,000. Anyway, my real joy in playing Minecraft comes from making redstone circuits, so it's a bit of a shame if it turns out I can't use this one.
