Title: Drop power collector (update)
Post by: rytovius on June 19, 2012, 07:20:08 pm
I came up with an Idea of a lag free timer using  repeters. You put a torch for a second then remove it. It then sends current through the repeters. Right after you place the torch you put regular redstone in its place, making an infanate loop. next you place an output and connect it to what ever you want.  I have an example at /home rytovius. Spamarian belives it is ok but I would like to make sure with an op.

OK so I made a item drop power collector as i like to call it. What it does is dispenses a block like dirt. the dirt hits a pressure plate sending power to a redstone torch which turns off power to redstone wiring. when the dirt despawns a power source is created and another dirt is dispensed. Since despawning only works when your in that chunk it does not go when someone is not their. I asked 3 operators if it is ok, xeadin, awesomealicia, and wratkie. xeadin says he thinks it is fine. wratkie says as long as I dont use it for a trap :). But awesomealicia says no timers allowed at all. But i think this more as like a BUD switch which is allowed. So I would like to know If it is allowed. I took it down because awesomealicia said, so. Can the operators vote or something to decide if it is allowed or not?

people who believe it is fine

That is a normal timer.

if been told my multiple including admin, that the regular timer your talking about is not allowed  :D
why do you think you need to get my melons with a button  ;)

as we are always trying to get things done in another way, alot of us searched for alternatives to the regular timer

these guys use one, im not sure if this is allowed tho, so for now il stick with a button

I believe that works the same as a normal timer, in fact it's just the same.

I suggest you remove it.

I made a new timer It deals with dispawning items, so every 5 minutes it sends out a signal. I plan to have multiple so its more like every minute.

Do you understand how laggy that is? It practically kills the server. I suggest you remove it. Or I will, and you wont get the materials back.

It's a timer.

Is it really that hard to just press a button and not harm the server?

I mean how long can that take you? 2 minutes? I know automatic farms are fancy and all, but you guys don't have to be so lazy.

I just took a look at this timer. Not sure how efficient it would be since it requires a dispenser and drops, but it does seem feasable. All it required was a block of water, a dispenser, a wooden pressure plate, a redstone torch, redstone wire to power the dispenser and anything else hooked up to the redstone circuit, and a supply of block or item drops.

A simple bud switch timer is better than this, and dispenser timers, Jams up easily.... Also the reason for bannin redstone clocks is because of the repeated block update, when the current is travelling through the circuit...

I believe it doesn't lag the whole server :P. Only the chunks that it's in.
It's a well known FACT MOST people know about, however since the admins of opticraft lay down the law, no redstone clocks due to lag, as opticrafters we must obey it :/

multiple mods, tell us its allowed, and multiple other mods, tell us its not
im pretty sure the admins are not going to allow the "creative timers" so i stil have my shiny button

there needs to be a clear rule about it, that all mods can follow, couse there not on 1 line
as of right now alot are experimenting and finding ways around the given vague rules, breaking them in the progress

redstone timers are clearly banned, now what are we going to do about the 99 other ways?
banning all of them? banning some? banning everything with redstone? banning only repeater timers?

Dispenser keeps shoting out dirt when someone loads the chunk, even if he isn't near, also the pumpkins in ur farm won't grow if the person isnt near, hence causing unessasary lag. Bud switch timer activates ONLY WHEN U R IN THE CHUNK, hence it will activate only when ur using the farm, making it not laggy compared to dispencers

What triggers the dispenser to shoot out sort or what ever?

He puts a inverter connected to the pressure plate, so when te item on te plate despawns after 5 mins a current will be sent to the farm and the dispencer, then the dispencer shoot a dirt to land on the plate and deactivate the piston....
This sucks I made one on another SMP and it jams like sht, cause if ur not in the chunk when item despawns, ur dispencer won't fire, and all the farm piston will be on until u drop MANUALLY another item on the plate.

I've been part of the staff for a while now, and I can tell you that redstone is not something that is talked about a lot with staff.
So it's possible a few of us may allow something by mistake without knowing.
If Nick or Relkeb say it's not allowed, then it's not allowed, no matter how many Ops or Mods think differently.

I asked xeadin about despawning items. He said they won't despawn unless your in that chunk.

So if u die in the end, and since no one is in the end u can come back an hour later to pick it? No xeadin got his facts wrong.

Isn't that good it only works when people are in the chunk not making any lag when not in use?

It still works when ppl are FAR away but have THAT chunk loaded, bud pumpkin timer only WORKD IF UR IN THAT CHUNK, so if you seal up the chunk, only u can activate it, hence less lag.
