It means youre chatting in Local! type /ch g to chat in global, /ch t to chat in trade

It isn't a rank, it is showing what chat channel you are in.
L = Local - only people in a certain radius can hear what you say
G = Global - everyone anywhere can hear what you say
T = Trade - used to sell/buy, everyone anywhere can hear what you say

To change the chat channel, type /ch (letter/channel)
e.g /ch g will take you to the global chat channel
