I love classic, but the graphics suck, and the block choices are extremely limited. I'm not the only one who feels this way, and yet there are practically zero creative-mode servers. I aim to solve this. My goal is to configure a full-version Minecraft server package that plays *exactly* like our classic creative server. If I'm successful, I would love for it to be an Opticraft server.
Project details:
Template flatgrass maps similar to classic maps. Terrain generation will be disabled. Nether disabled. Time of day fixed. Day maps, evening maps, night maps. As maps fill up, new maps will be loaded from the templates. Physics and redstone will be disabled on Guest/Member/Recruit to conserve server resources. Builder worlds will have physics enabled. Crafter worlds will have Redstone. A preconfigured Zombe mod file will be available for players accustomed to WoM controls.

Do you mean edit the Classic game to look like Survival graphics?
Or edit the Survival game to look like Classic graphics?
Kinda confused me :P
-
He wants to create a plugin that makes it so SMP worlds can be like classic, limited space with multiple worlds instead of one massive world.
I won't mind hosting testing grounds for this on my desktop for you lumin, my internet provider is really good so I don't think there would be much problems with ping and it's handled many large sphere cuboids, large redstone contraptions, and 70k block tnt explosions.
-
sounds cool
-
I have thought about this before, what if classic was more like SMP.
It is very much doable but one slight thing would be the new world, Im not sure how that would work. Any how I'll like to see this proposal in action.
-
If you need any help, count me in. Would there be a way to turn World-Edit, or something similar, into /cuboid?
-
Hopefully this can be made with existing plugins. Later I can work on tailoring the code more specifically. I would love to bring cuboid over to SMP... :)
-
This sounds like a great idea! I would love to see this unravel :)
-
Should this be moved to suggestions?

He's not forwarding this to optical or cschurz, his just discussing some ideas of it and who is willing to help him with it.

Just ask Opticalza, I've suggested this many times already. ;)

The reason I didn't suggest world edit is that is has much more complex, annoying commands, and you need a wooden axe, you can't do it with your fist as in Classic.

ever heard of //pos1 or this plugin

Guess not. :P

As for //pos 1, what did I say about complex, useless commands?
And for voxelsniper, yes, although I didn't think of it at the time.

Since cuboid alternatives already exist, it seems like a lot of redundant work to port Cuboid to 1.25.

By the way, it seems foolish to start this with 1.2.5, why not wait 1 more day and start on 1.3.1?
-
WorldEdit isn't very difficult to use. You just need to know how to 'properly' use it.
-
It only took me a few minutes to get the basics down. Just have someone help you and do a little research!

Yes because Lumi has enough time and patience to build a server in one day. Also do you think servers any of opti's servers were built in one day or was classic in development for a long time.

What? I'm not quite sure what you're even talking about :l

Like I said before, the initial versions will be nothing more than a series of bukkit plugins... and most of those will be forward compatable anyway.

People can bug creative stuff into SMP fyi ....also why don't u just gather stuff to build ur awesome builds? XD

Yeah, that's great if you're building with dirt and cobble. Anything else either takes forever or is impossible to gather large amounts of. Building a 256 height tower out of obsidian and diamond block? Not going to happen on SMP.
In other news, progress on the server is going well. I'm using Remote Desktop to control the 'server' from my 'client' laptop :)
