Title: All-edit topic?
Post by: SalsaInABowl on September 13, 2012, 02:40:06 pm
We could create a new type of topic, and in the additional options, we could be able to put "Anyone can modify the first post." or maybe have a new forum code where it's a place anyone can edit. For example:I have a topic, as most of you know, and it's called WAR! So basically, they have to state their team, and I ad them to the teams page in the first post (in a spoiler). So what we could do is...

Code: [Select]
[allowedit] Blue Team: SnapeTheSnipe, theone7142, proush600563[/allowedit]
Or even, of possible, we could allow only specific people to edit the part (with the exception of moderator+ of course) by typing:

Code: [Select]
[allowedit=CazualxGrenade] Red Team: CazualxGrenade etc.[/allowedit]
And if we want to allow multiple players...

Code: [Select]
[allowedit= opticalza Nick3306 Relkeb] Hello Opticraft![/allowedit]
But some players will abuse this. To make sure this doesn't happen...
Code: [Select]
[allowedit=rank=Moderator] Sup guys.[/allowedit]
And so only players of that rank may change it or above. We could also be able to lock an allowedit section temporarily too.

This could prove useful to a lot of topics, such as the ranks registry, my WAR topic and much more. Let me know what you guys think, and hopefully you read the ENTIRE big wall of text and my excess usage of
Code: [Select]

It would have to be an existing SMF mod, since I don't think Optical would be willing to create something like this.
(That's even if he knows how to create forum mods)

He knows how to, But if you remember from my Spoiler campaign (http://www.opticraft.net/index.php/topic,8649.0.html), I recon it took 2 months to motivate him to install it.

If you're going to pitch for a mod to be added, at least specify why. If a mod like this is to be created, What solutions is it going to solve?

For example, spoilers could be used to contain large portions of information, pictures & so on and forth in order not to spam a page.

"Allowedit" Is a hypothetical mod that makes it easier for people to be lazy.

Plus, moderators can edit posts regardless of permissions.
And I could recall that allowing a player to edit a post would be an option that you toggle for the entire board. for example "Allow rank to edit posts"

What you are presenting is a text code, a text code only modifies something within the post. For example [allowdelete] You can't actually delete this thread [/allowdelete] won't allow you to delete the thread.

You should research more about SMF and coding before suggesting something like this.

I would enjoy this feature

Umm... what would be the benefit to this? Just that one topic?

There are only a few places where this kind of 'all-access editing' is allowed -- Wikipedia and Wikia are two such places.

Like I stated, this could also be useful for other topics. The ranks registry could be a good one.

Public lists should NEVER have allow edit to everyone on them.

Simply because ANYONE could edit it, and potentially remove other people's posts, and overall; Mess up the entire thread.

Not only that, but the potential for general thread vandalism exists as well-- unwarranted modifications or even some random person stumbling by and just messes up a thread just to be funny.

That's not what we want.

Really not a good idea. Because like it was said, if anyone can edit it then you will have someone mess it up.

I see the logic here. I think this pretty much no longer has a chance to be implemented
