Title: Creating channels?
Post by: SalsaInABowl on September 26, 2012, 11:02:04 pm
So sometimes, there are multiple people around us an I want to only talk to two, but not to everyone. WhAt if we had an option to make our own channel? It might not be super-great idea, but we can learn how to make it spam-proof along the way. Another option is to possibly make it a donation to have your own channel.

To invite someone into a channel, you MSG them the password to your channel and they type it in. For example...

Code: [Select]
/ch opticalza password
And you can get in!

So let me know what you think, and add some more ideas as well.

There is only one problem, in that people might just spam a bunch of channels. And do we really need to have a billion channels for just like 3 people to talk to each other?

I mentioned that problem Oreo.

I was thinking maybe the channel expires in one hour?

Or donate for a channel? You could control it and such.

Mentioned that already too.

I had another idea. Maybe we could also kick/mute/ban and such people from our own channels? And assign channel admins.

So we could say...

/chadmin CazualxGrenade

And they now also have control over the channel.

One problem that I see; what happens when someone that you don't want in your channel figures out or gets told your channel's password? Also, this seems like it could turn into a very exclusive thing, some people want to make a chat channel and leave others out. I do not see the point, why not go somewhere private and talk in local?

Lol Snape, didnt read the entire thing.

Bantam, instead of having a password, just make it so you manually add players to the people allowed in the channel. Also, you cant have people follow you around while you're mining or doing something else. That way people could be doing things and talking at the same time.

This would require us to code our own chat system since you cannot do this in herochat as far as I know. even if we could it is a pretty far fetched idea.

Good idea for like a group chat or something. I remember playing a game on the on the computer a wile back where u could do a command like /create (room name) then you were able to invite players /invite (player). Then when you were done you could just delete the chat room, and you did not have to worry about the chat room existing forever because it would just go away when the players logged or left the chat. But yea i think in order to make your own chat you should have to donate .

Could the faction chat be used in a non PvP environment?

not to go against nick and bam also not to make more work for cshurz but i think this idea could be particularly awsome. could be handy especially for mods... (dealing with tickets where multiple parties are involved but not every one in local needs to know)

NEVER add factions, they are terrible, I don't care if it's for pvp or not, just don't add them.

I see why this would be wanted but its just another on of them suggestions which are like "Thats a good idea, adds a little perk to Opticraft but is not really needed right now"

This isn't for the current optic raft but when PvP is added we need something like the factions chat so we may want to start looking at this stuff if it has't already been covered by dejected.

Not nessasarily. We have yet to get a game mode complex enough that you need team chat. Arena based pvp games are too fast to stop and type.

For us fast typers, there is plenty of time to stop and type. I do it all the time. I type at 100WPM so yeah...

But as stated from the recent posts, it's a great addition in/for the future but not necessary as of this moment imo.

Nick I was thinking more along a team based PvP system. I am one of those people that likes to strategies with a team in secret rather then shout it out loud. But I can see your point that the games would be short enough to not really need it.
