I am thinking about leaving opticraft for a less restrictive server after we trusted players can no longer harvest ICE with silk touch and place/break ice to create water. :-\ Are there any plans to address this? Vote here if you have an opinion on the matter.

Why not use a bucket?
-
Be thankful that people can't grief using ice to make water and destroy rails, redstone, and the like.
Tell me-- Is anyone else complaining?
-
I do not care about ice.
-
I cant get Ice either lol, its everyone, not you
-
We can't harvest ice anymore? Wow, so not nessessary...I'm sorry but really?

I hated this one guy who kept going into my laboratory and griefing my Redstone with ice by breaking it. And like bantam said, why not use a bucket? And are you really going to leave just because trusted annoy pick up ice? Just saying, less restrictive servers have a lot of grief in them.
-
Yea that's petty that you're leaving because of that.
-
Well maybe Trusted could have ice. I mean, we have buckets, so why not? (The dude trolling me was a member)
-
Sorry I don't mean to be negative or petty, but ice is very useful for making mob/farm systems, and other cool stuff, and it stacks so if you have to place a lot of water then using a bucket is a real pain. I didn't say I was leaving, just that looking into other servers crossed my mind. I never have grief issues, because I always use protection stones on stuff I care about, and enclose it so no one can flow water into them anyway. Ice is a very cool and useful game dynamic for people who like to build mechanisms. IMHO if you don't enclose your stuff and use a PS then you run the risk of being griefed. If a non-trusted has gotten a silk touch pick through enchanting then either they have been playing for a long time, and it's getting to be about time that they should be trusted, or they'll do something dumb any way (if they haven't already) and get banned. Obviously there is a balance that needs to be set between anti-grief measures and preserving the original game mechanics.
I just wanted to bring this up to see if other people missed this game dynamic as much as I do, because, if they do, then maybe we can get this fixed for trusted ppl. The point of the post was not to bitch and whine, but to gauge interest in this from the community. If many ppl feel like I do, it will be useful for ops/admins/mods/etc to know so that they can look into a fix. If no one else cares, then it will never get changed and I need to determine how much I miss this (and other) game mechanics, to decide what I will do. I just wanted to gauge interest, not criticize anyone or whine.
-
PS I admit my original post came off as a bit whiny, for which I apologize.
-
i support the idea of trusts being able to break ice and make water...however members and below should not be able to do this.
-
Can we still use ice?
I would support using ice but only as a block
I don't think we should be able to break it for water since we can just use buckets or call a mod
-
here is an idea use /helpop can i have some water here. you see that's part of our job to place water for people so if u need water placed just call a moderator not that big of a deal.
-
I am going to agree with devzer0 on some of his points. I have used ice for some of my projects, and there should be some sort of way to place it like snape said maybe trusted+ should be enabled to use it.
-
I wanted to use ice under the half slabs in my house, to get the effect.
-
ice is cool, and ive already started to use it on some of my builds

very much agreed
-
ps don't forget to take the poll so that we have a summary of everyones opinion.
-
When will this be disided on?
-
Not a good idea. Using a bucket of water is so much easier that using ice anyway. We should just keep the rules constant, and not change them for an individua'ls problem.
-
I think maybe we could place it, but when we break it, nothing happens. No water, no mess.

Thats what i said, im sure they could make that work so that we could use the block but not use it for water.

But, ice stacks, ice can be used as a building material, and for effect (Ice under halfslabs)
ALSO: I reccomend not allowing ice to melt

How about there would be a command of which if someone breaks ice, water can be toggled on or off, I realize this might be hard to code, but it will be very usefull
-
Ice naturally melting is easily controlled by a WorldGuard configuration node, but keeping ice from forming into water, by breaking it, is not so easy.
Ice can be useful as a decorative block, mainly for 'glossy' windows, but ice isn't a common/ general building material.

Xeadin, the other day I broke quite a few placed ice blocks. They did not leave a water source after they were destroyed.
-
Were they up in the air? Ice blocks will only leave water if they're on the ground.
-
Nope, on sand.
-
You will be able to use silktouch on ice soon, this was an unintended side-effect.
-
Thanks Optic :)

Yay for trusteds!

Ya.

I'm pretty sure he meant for everyone, not just trusteds.

Thank you.

Well picking up ice with silk touch is a good improvement. I still think it would be great if when trusted players break it it creates a water source block, since it stacks, but I'll take what I can get. Thanks Optical... also do you have an ETA for silk touch working on ice again?
-
I'm not sure if you can exactly make it so water only comes out from a trusted player. All I'm gonna say is if you need water, use a bucket.
-
lol nice quote bantam2
-
just a suggestion,
this might sound hard o pull off, but...
maybe if you could intergrate a sub-rank into trusted which allows you to get more priveleges the higher trusted rank you are?
e.g. level 2 trusted can use ice
thanks,
Square_skull
-
There have been topics about a new rank.
The anwser was no.
Also that probbably would be hard to code.
-
would someone lock this? because i feel it has already been answered.
-
for water i always use buckets, why would you use ice
-
We still need ice because we use it for many projects and it can be used in pixel arts , ice has a nice blue color , transport for items , and 64 ice MUCH easier to get then 64 water buckets
-
Suggestion applied/ going to be soon (as Optical Said) I assume lock?

This is a terrible idea, why would you want to that? Also, again, ICE STACKS ppl! water doesn't! But I'm satisfied with picking up ice with silk touch, even if I can't break it for water.
-
Um, can't you just make a plugin or something that stops ice from producing water when broken? I like building with ice...
-
i believe opti is so succsesful because of the high level of moderation, i believe the ice is un-nessisary

It is very helpful for mob traps and such, and water won't come out of it anyways. Besides, we have buckets. Use em and stop being lazy. Besides, if you're in a snow biome, the water will freeze.
