In 1660, one of my ancestors, Thomas Studwell, founded the town of Rye in New York.

My great grandfather was a high judge for the Ottoman empire, And personally met with the emperor.

My other great grandfather was a member of the Anti-French Militia in Lebanon. As he was traveling to Syria in the woods, He saw a man attempting to rape her. He yelled at the man, but he didn't listen; So my grandfather shot him dead.

Later on the case went to court, It was considered murder because the man was deaf, and couldn't head the warnings. Anyways, He was sentenced to a year or two in jail, However a few weeks before he was released the mother of the slain rapist visited him the prison with some soup. Little did he know, It was poisonous.
He died before he was freed.

My grandfather (Father's side) was shot in the head with a pistol, in the middle of a courtyard at his town by his best friend. My father watched this when he was 4 years old.
The reason for the murder was political differences.

My other grandfather served as an Adviser to the Lebanese Prime minster Rachid Karami, and was responsible for organizing, and running the Parliament.
Whilst the rest of the Lebanese politicians were corrupt scum; making money off the public, My grandfather instead donated his money, and helped out as many people as he could.
When he died, The city of Tripoli (In Lebanon) renamed a street to his name "Dr Samih Al Rafii" in his honor.
Oh, and he had multiple degrees in Law from Lebanon, Egypt, France, Italy and some other countries.
He spoke 7 languages.

That's as far back as I know.

Oh, No one died fighting :P
Although my parents did witness the horrors of the Israeli-Lebanese/Lebanese conflict.

My father used to live in an apartment building, and each time the Israeli planes passed by people would be terrified of being bombed. So what he did was he went up to the roof, waited for a fighter to fly by, and recorded the sound it made on his cassette (An old audio recorder), and he would play the sound back to scare the entire apartment just for laughs ^^

During the same conflict my grandfather was yelling at the PLO leader Yasser Arafat to order his Militia to stop whatever they were doing. The Palestinians did cause a lot of turmoil in Lebanon, So obviously people wanted them to stop blowing up our banks, robbing them dry, drafting students into their armies, and stealing from the population.

Oh what a terrible time that I'm glad not to have witnessed.

Itd be awesome if i knew more info on my family tree, because i had 3 different generations fight in the space of 2 world wars.
The ooldest 1 survived fine and lived a good life.
The second was gassed.(they did that to pprisoners too).
The third was shot in battle. He survived, but later died from causes of smoking.

If he was a Soviet soldier the majority of them would be sent to Concentration camps (Since the Russians didn't sign the Geneva conventions).

I highly doubt he was gassed, though... I mean if prisoners tried to escape POWs they would be sent to a Concentration camp. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they were killed.
I don't think you should take it as fact that they gassed prisoners, I've searched for information about that, and the only execution of American troops were during the Malmedy massacre, where they 1. Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler killed 80 POWs.

In WW2? Because none of the axis or allied powers used gas weapons at all.

Just a quick fact for you all, technically, technically, Russia and Japan are still at war since they never signed the peace treaty to end World War Two.

Hm.. I would say, that I have nothing good to say from my mother's side.
But, my father's side I believe is better.

My Grandfather, helped the whole region I live, to be created. He was one of the most important links in the local region because he was very good at writing at that time, and everyone was asking for help, even the mayors.

My grandfather's father, started the business we have, which is a shoe shop with age of 110+ years.

And my grandma's uncle, who died on December 6 If I remember correctly, at the age of 97, fought in the Second World War in 1940's against Albanians for six months in the first row. A great person to remember and to get inspired from his stories and his ethical values. I admire him at maximum.

His nephew who lives in Utah, used to fight for US Air-force as a coordinator for special suicide-missions. I don't know him very well. I have seen him only once, 10 years ago.

I had some relatives that fought in WWI, but it is way back to remember them.
