It's a conker, we get them literally everywhere in England.

Chestnuts outsides have many more spikes and are brown ish

And deekay, they are scattered across our school's lawns; pretty ugly when there's loads of smashed dead ones everywhere.

People at my school throw them at each other.  I got hit with one in the eye with the green shell on.  Pain.
