Hey Guys.
So recently, the number of players has fallen, this in some respects is why i have chosen to make a promotional video for opticraft, you can find this under the general discussion page.
What my idea is is that when a new player joins, like many other servers, we should have a message like "Welcome (username here) To Opticraft. This message will alert members,trusteds,mods and ops that they are new so that we can help them get along.
I have seen players numerous times join for a few hours, get bored and leave because no one has helped them get started.
Yes, some of you will say this is why we have a "Guest" rank, but some players stay as a guest for quite a while *cough* me *cough*.
Okay, tell me what you think, I recon it will give us more long term players to the Opticraft community

To be honest, I really like the announcements for when someone logs on because it really does grabs the community's attention! I always welcome people if I know they are new.

I like this idea. I've been on plenty of servers with this and it makes the players feel more welcome because it's hard to tell if someone joined for the first time or not. Most new guests are "ignored" because no one knows if they are new.

FNV I totally agree. We need to know who's new so we can help them on their way. It shouldn't be too hard. Just a simple yet reffective plugin can be used.

I know what you mean when you say it'll make them feel welcomed, but I can assure you we get tons of people joining the server everyday, and I for one don't want to be told about every new player that joins.
I think it was disabled for this reason anyway.

If you think about it..chat shouldn't be quiet. Recently it has been a lot of the time dead. I mean, it is a server for crying out loud, we should get messages just like when we can vote. We could use a bit more chat time to welcome someone to the server.

I've been on small SMP servers that do have this "Welcome" message. Anytime the people see it literally everyone in chat goes "Welcome to ____" I feel this makes the person feel as if they joined a community and joining a community makes it harder to leave.

8 Months WOW that's a long time, but like she said, once that welcome message pops up, everyone invites them and they just feel more comfortable around newer people.

I like this idea, making people feel welcome is a big factor in their choice to stay or not.

I remember the times when I was new to the server, I had no bloody idea on what I was going to do. I was lucky some Trusteds were kind enough to point me in the right direction. If such messages are implied, the people currently online will pay more attention to the newcomers, and still save their face from the awkward moments when they try to guide people who have already played a few times but are yet still haven't signed up.
I support this motion.

I also managed to get some of my clan friends to buy Mine craft and I will get them to play on opticraft as our main Mine craft server! By that I mean you will gain around 26+ users.
I just need time, because I barely use the PC.

I have said this a milliont times but once more...
1. Go to Office Depot
2. Find the sharpie testing places or anywhere you can test a writing pencil/pen/marker shits
3. Spam Opticraft's IP along with "SMP Minecraft server" all over the paper
(I did this one time)

Hello, I've not posted in a while but I might as well give my input. Too be honest, Opticraft hasn't been getting as many new players because the voting system may be a tad broke. If that was fixed, people would be forced to vote. Their are people out there that do abuse this system. Anyway, if someone would be kind enough to get footage of Opticraft like cinematics, I would be more then happy to edit them slightly. Add some colour correction and in general making it more appealing then just the raw footage. We can then upload this to an Opticraft members YouTube channel that is popular. This would get us more players joining as they are amused by what they see and wish to see for themselves. However I do agree in adding a notification system for when new people join. Many new players just walts in and grief, we should fix this issue by showing them the positive side of our server by helping them.

That's not entirely true, as it has always been "broken". Apart from the time we tried a system where voting through the opticraft website was needed, but there were a lot of issues and problems, let alone the voting sites thought bots were being used to vote. It was a lot of hassle.
