Title: Revitalize Server Listings
Post by: Luminaeus on November 10, 2013, 01:25:41 pm
Our description on server listings is a bit... outdated. The descriptions haven't been changed since we first turned on SMP.

I think, when we upgrade to 1.7.2 and introduce a new world, we should announce that on all the server listings and forums. We need to do something to draw more people in as it's been getting a bit quiet lately.

I don't see a reason this couldn't be done.

I will bring this up to optical once 1.7 releases.

It also wouldn't hurt to re-educate our existing members on the importance of voting. Not just clicking the buttons and closing the new windows/tabs but actually filling out the captchas and clicking 'vote'.

Oh trust me...it's been done a couple hundred times before.

Good topic and good idea's, I agree we could do with some freshening up and a bit of re-branding. Would have no issue with updating the vote sites descriptions, heck even a new banner would be good - if we can get a decent one.

As far as voting goes, I am working on making votifier required to receive rewards (on sites which implement votifier), and vote nag / vote rewards such as /home will only be activated if you've recently voted on a votifier site. More on this soon.

9 pages of submissions but no decent ones?

So basically all those people wasted their time.  There are some decent ones, come on (:

Says the man who made a banner with the crosshair still visible :P

I just went through all of the submitted banners, there is nothing that really stands out while looking professional. Many are just text-on-picture,  irrelevant patterns, generic looking fonts or trying to fit too much colour or pictures on one small banner. If I'm honest, the only one that really looked nice to me (font, colours and proportionally) is DK's;

(click to show/hide)

But even that might not really show us as a Minecraft server. I'd agree that we still need some that have spent more than 15 mins on them.

There are a few relatively decent ones, but as Tobs said, most are just extremely basic and don't look like the authors have put  much more then an hour of work into them at most. I am sure there are a few ones in there which are nearly good enough.

Will the new voting allow people who donated for /homes to still use /homes without voting?
