Title: OptiCraft iPhone / Android app [No permission yet]
Post by: omaroo2 on January 25, 2012, 03:57:43 pm
So I've been working on a free iPhone / Android app maker site
And I have been wondering of making a guide for opticraft called OptiGuide
It helps others by teaching them how to craft and also shows block infos

So if anyone would like to help me with the logos/ pics, you are welcomed!
Btw this will take time, First we need opti's or the admin's permission.

If you have any ideas please post below.
And if you think it is useless I might not continue with it :)

Sounds like an alright idea.
One thing, how will this be different to any other Minecraft guide app ???
Because you need to be original when making the app, there's no point putting time and effort making something that's already out there.

Hummm nothing different I think it will be another way of advertising the server :l
But still you can share ideas to make it unique :)

Some ideas:
Have a page for:
1. Commands for each rank.
2. Plugins and what they do.
3. General server info.
4. Rules
5. Prices for items (may not work because prices are always changing)

That's all I've got really, hope this helps a little :)

Make an app that is like the forums but easier to navigate on them. Like the facebook app for the iPod/iPhone/iPad.
that would be boss.

An app combining all of these ideas would be very nice.  A navigable forum, server information, perpetually updating server info (players online, prices, etc.)  Perhaps even incorporate IRC or server chat into the app.

Also, possibly have it for 69p and money goes to Optic? Or would that stop most people getting it?

What about a in-app donation?

In-app donations = brilliant.
I wouldn't make it a paid app, though, that would heavily discourage downloads.

Simple machines forums are very easy to navigate on mobile devices imo.

I agree, I do it all the time (right now, in fact). But there are other features we could put in the app that would make it very useful. Market prices, players online for each server, built-in IRC, just to name a few. If mods and ops could moderate server chat through the app, that would add a whole new level of usefulness, allowing staff to moderate on the go.

I disagree, it doesn't resise, or make the text bigger. In the end, it is a lot of scrolling and fiddly button pressing. (Then pressing back when you press the wrong thing) and this new "Vote for us!" annoying popup makes it worse.

Maybe you should vote then.

It pops up on other computers/mobile devises even if you're already voted.

I believe that it pops up only when you are eligible to vote.  I once voted, and the popup disappeared.  The next day, however, it came back.

just a suggestion for how to make money from this:
how about you have advertisements in the app, and require a one time payment or donation to remove the ads?
that way if you dont get any money you can use the app, just with ads, and if you do get money you
can remove the ads by paying?

I am tempted to say yes to this, then I remember how I HATE ads on other apps, then I think about money again, then adds... I don't know :/

Great idea my friend. Make sure it's simple, easy to navigate, and has a different look than most of the minecraft guide apps.

Sign me up, Omar.
I won't be able to do much until 2 weeks or so, but I'm happy to give some general ideas before any development of the app actually starts.

Awesome idea: voting reminders. Automatically informs you when you are eligible to vote.

I have had another think. I am willing to help the iOS side of the project. I hardly know any code however I think I can help with the design and the general process of making it available.
