Title: Logical PS Stone Sizes
Post by: ViperZeroOne on March 18, 2012, 07:34:05 pm
Just a minor suggestion, but seeing that chunk sizes are specific (16x16) would it not be logical to have PS stones follow that same formula?  Say the lowest PS stone covers one chunk (16x16), maybe the next level does one better (32x32), and the next level covers even more (48x48) etc?  Having PS divisible by 16 would make life a lot easier I think.  But it's up to you guys, I'm just suggesting it.  :)

This could be a good suggestion, however most players aren't even aware of how big the chunk sizes are, or where the boundaries of the chunks are (or just aren't even aware that the game is in chunks), and may build their homes in just a small part of a chunk and the rest exposed to all other players without them knowing until it's too late.

The way how we have it currently works with all new and veteran players

True enough Xeadin, however even without the knowledge of how big the block sizes are those players will still go on oblivious.  That said, why not make it easier for those who aren't oblivious.

Here is a simple reason. You said 16*16? Where does the block go? A square with sides of an even length always has 4 center points (8 if it is 3D, like the ones we are talking about). You do the maths.

Protection zone sizes need to be odd so the block can go in the middle.

Ok, well now we're just arguing semantics.  Logically you would go 17x17x17, 33x33x33, and 49x49x49 so you can cover the whole chunk, and it would also give a 1 block buffer on the next chunk over.

Wouldn't also be a huge hassle to change them?  :P

I wouldnt think so? I would think you would just have to change the dimensions.

Maybe, but some ps stones could get too much bigger and go on someone elses creation/building...also they would probably have to be more expensive  :P

Right. Also having protections based on chunks wouldn't leave much control for the player(s) setting up the protection stones-- with the precious stones, it allows for better or complete customization and control, so that your house or property is not just partly protected or the protection could run into someone else's creation. You are able to protect as much of it as possible in the form of the precious stones.

Precious stones is the name of the plugin. We call them protection stones because we only use them for protection.

Small off shoot question on the PS stones...any way to turn them clear.?  Really Bugs me to know end having an "odd" stone floating in the middle of my house ;)

Just a question, Thanks.

There are some creative ways of "hiding" them though Fireforger...  Example, in my house I use the protection stone as the center of a hanging chandler.  Thus, it's being used efficiently to cover my house while at the same time remaining "disguised".  I've also hidden them in the center of columns, just under the floorboards, just above the roof, in a set of stairs, behind a ladder...  There are plenty of ways to hide the PS so they don't interfere with you're overall design image.

I think it's good to show off your PS I do, ;D it shows you can afford em

I try to hide mine, but that's only cause I like doing aesthetically pleasing builds.  I don't like having a random coal block in a wooden wall, for example.  That said, and in that case, you can easily hide it behind a painting and nobody will know it's there.

Precious stones is the name of the plugin. We call them protection stones because we only use them for protection.

Incorrect - it took me a while to work this out:
Protection stones are the plugin which we have - with the ores.
Precious stones are another plugin which can allow healing blocks, griefing traps and much more.

Also, changing the sizes are tricky. If all of the sizes changed, what would happen to all of the other Protection stone already placed? the world would be out of balance. - The sized announced are the default sized which came with the plugin -  I know this because I have this plugin on my server

I don't see a reason in having them 16x16
Will you build your house exactly centered on the chunk?-You actually can't anyways considering the center is a point between 4 blocks...
The current sizes are good in my opinion.

I'm sorry Greedy_Jam but I don't like to advertise it.
My server is private and isn't often up because I'm on Opticraft or a server that I helped to make: BigBadCraft
If you need it, I'll PM you

Lol you should probably do more research before making these claims because you are the one that is incorrect. It also doesn't help that me and relkeb were the ones who found the plugin (well borrowed the idea) So ya, the plugin is precious stones.
