Title: offline for too long
Post by: BrightPickles on March 26, 2012, 10:54:21 pm
When i first joined this server around January i made a hole in the ground with my friends. When i went to look around i saw houses that seemed to be empty for a long time. The houses were part griefed and all the doors and chests were still there interfering with active peoples buildings. I feel that it would be good say if a player was offline for say... 2 months maybe more there stuff they built would disappear. I know this could be bad when a player got back on and his/her stuff was gone but they could have all that stuff in their inventory. Please take this into consideration and leave a comment below!!

There are already a lot of topics about this. The problem is that most people log off for real-life situations and then they come back on only to find their home had disappeared and they end up rage-quitting -- making this solution cause even more problems than it would fix them.

Now, one thing I do agree with is leaving a chest with the player's house materials in it, but that'd take a lot of work and the normal moderators don't have worldedit or the ability to spawn items/ blocks (that's an operator+ ability, and we only have 7 players total that can do that, but they aren't all online at the same time).

Overall, it would not be a good idea, but a future solution is forthcoming within the next week or so -- a much needed "refacing" of the server

i agree. it is always a mod op or admin that tells people about the server and how it works that makes someones idea bad or obsolet(i probably spelled it wrong cut me some slack im 12)

First of all, what a bad poll. YOu have only the choices that give advantage only to your idea.
Second, NO!
Some areas need recovery, but losing something that you have made, its the worst. This can generate bad rumors for the server. A most acceptable time-limit would be the 8 months.
I believe its reasonable.

No time limit, as ppl who donated will have their stuff eg diamond ps destroyed  for being offline. Maybe only ppl who nvr donated, or who are guest, will get their things deleted.

Up to this point, we have never shown favoritism to donators, and I don't think we ever plan to.

It would be nice if the donators had a little respect, cause they do keep the server running.

Guys? We didnt say about the player. Just the buildings etc, if they are griefed etc..
On the other hand, what can be lost if you donate since all the donation packages are disquise, levels, and money..

overall this thread is pointless,  if you look back in the suggestions you will see it has been suggested already many times!

I would say not, but I would support (if this isn't already the case) that players that have been BANNED for several months and neglected to make a ban appeal (or whose appeals were consistently rejected) could be completely undone. But I know that this is sometimes (often?) already the case.

The only other modification I would make to your suggestion is to first see how many blocks a user has placed prior to disappearing. If they show a clear lack of investment, perhaps only building a house or something, then I don't think it's necessarily worthwhile to keep their real-estate space reserved indefinitely.

How about when the player is inactive for 3 months+ his items are automatically removed, and all blocks mined by him are replaced, and all blocks placed by him/owned by him or in his inventory are sold to the market at the buy price. Therefore, it saves space, but he wouldn't have to restart.

If you were inactive for 3 months, there would be no mob spawner left, just a door, a few furnaces, and anything else ungriefable.

No, that's a terrible idea.

What if you go on long vacation in summer, like me? Or go to the hospital for something and come out later and have everything you worked for is gone? If there are such badly greifed houses it's just a door and some chests, have a mod remove them.

If you go away in the summer for 2 or 3 months, then, you sir, are a lucky bastard ;)

How about if you have a destroyed building with just doors and chests left, or its been abandoned for a long time, if its in the way mods could move it. It should be allowed for mods to move peoples chests and stuff and they could reset the players home at the location to which they moved the chests
