The winners of the April-May 2012 AFK box tournament are.... Monkey and the Bitches! (In case the massive picture above didn't make it colossally clear enough)

Congratulations to MrMonkey91, MissTheSofie, Nikita_Mile and Turtleman918 who now have gloating rights and can profess that they are the champions (until the next comp).

I'd like to thank all the players who participated to make this such a success.
We will most likely rerun this tournament in July with some new rules and even more players/teams.

As we all know, afk boxing is an integral part of the opticraft server. Many a time I've returned to my computer moments after posting a "brb" comment and to my dismay (and my captors glee) I find myself trapped in a box. With this in mind I suggest we add a competitive element to this tomfoolery.

Now the premise of this is simple. "Capture" other members of the opticraft server while they are afk.
There will be a points system which will be based on the rank of the subject caught, with multipliers for the complexity of the box.

The points system is as follows:
Guest - 5 points
Member - 10 points
Recruit - 25 points
Builder - 50 points
Crafter - 150 points
Operator - 50 points
Admin - 1000 points
Owner - Win

This will be a team based game with teams consisting of a minimum of 1 player and a maximum of 4. However, I'd encourage you to join an existing team rather than forming your own (don't want this to just be a 1 man free for all).
Teams may consist of any variety of ranks. However, at the end of the contest, teams will have a penalisation based on what their rank is worth in afk points.
E.g. Our team would have a -225 point deduction as Builder + Builder + Recruit + Operator = 50 + 50 + 25 + 100 = 225.
The rank deduction will remain the same from when the team first signed up, e.g. if noobies becomes a builder during the contest, the penalisation will remain 25.

Other rules:

You may not capture people in your own team.
Your team may capture the same person more than once (but not on the same day).
You may not ask your friends to pretend to be afk so you can capture them.
No building afk boxes in spawn.
No building afk boxes that disrupt/destroy part of someones build.

You may only use the /tp command in this competition.
You may use the natural surroundings to create a complex/epic box
Images must be either uploaded using the "Insert Image" function in which case they must not be larger than around 900x516 OR they can be uploaded using a link to a photo album e.g. photobucket or imgur
In order for you to gain points from a box, the occupants name must be visible (epic afk box example would not get any points as it does not adhere to this rule).

Any breaking of the above rules will result in a 50 point penalisation or a disqualification for repeating offenders.

The multipliers are as follows (examples below):
x1 for basic afk box
x2 for complex afk box
x5 for epic afk box
+1 to multiplier for how many fellow team members you have posing next to the box.
+1 to multiplier for each member of an opposing team.
+1 to multiplier for each extra capture in a single box.

For the basic example, operator = 50 points x 1 = 50 points.
For the complex example, recruit = 25 points x 2 = 50 points
For the epic example, operator = 50 points x 5 = 250 points

If there is a dead heat at the end of the contest the winner will be determined by highest number of captures.

Contest begins 20th April, ends May 31st. Team with the most points after deduction wins, or if anyone catches optical...

Yeah I was thinking about that but then ops are often invisible too. What figure dyou reckon I should set it to?

Just classic I'm afraid, although perhaps if it's successful we'll branch into SMP.

And for it to be successful you need to start forming teams!! I'll be spreading the word on the server today and hope to see the rest of you do the same, lets get this competition some momentum.

I guess is unfair! afk operators are often invisible and only another operator can catch him so i think that 100 point for an operator is unfair =P

I've edited the rules to disallow capturing of invisible ops.

How about you team up and get a headstart on everyone? Or join "The Barbra Streisands".
Both of these would be counted as a basic box (although I like the 100 written above Starry haha) with an op and a builder, so 100 x 1 and 50 x 1 respectively.

Oh I didn't realise he built that, that's upgraded to a complex one, possibly epic if we get another angle showing it better.

But he still needs to join/create a team before he can enter the tournament.

EDIT: Just saw it in-game. It would qualify as an epic afk box.

Ok what we have there is (in album order):

Guest x Epic + team member = 30
Guest x Complex + team member = 15
Guest x Complex = 10

Total = 55 for these captures. I'll update the scoreboard when I figure out a good way of writing it up so it's easy to read and can adapt to new teams being introduced.

EDIT: New rules surrounding image submission have been added to "other rules".

Also, you may now use the surroundings next to a potential afk box victim to make epic afk boxes potentially easier to acquire, providing the box doesn't go against this rule:

Just to make this ultra clear, that plane was already there and I pushed the afk victim into the planes line of fire. Thus if I'd been able to build a box this could have qualified as a complex afk box.

What if someone, somehow, managed to capture multiple people in one box? Would that be additional points or just the points for each individual person?

I must say, I don't anticipate this happening, but if it does, add a +1 to the multiplier for each additional player in the box. I'll change add this now. Also, I added a new rule which adds a +1 to the multiplier for members of an opposing team caught.

One more thing i just thought of... what if an operator decides to cheat by freezing and muting people to gain points that way? (not that I was thinking of doing that at all... ;) ) Is this just on the honor system where we're expected to be honest and not cheat and without anyway of telling whether people have cheated or not?

Yeah I'm kinda relying on people just being honest, hopefully it doesn't get to the stage where it's so competitive that an op will summon all of guest world into a bedrock box.

gameguy's team points have been deducted upon finding out that he used the summon command, tut tut. I know it's not in the rules (I'll add it now), but summoning afkers isn't allowed. From now on any breaking of the rules will result in the points for the capture being taken away and a 50 point penalisation or disqualification for repeating offenders. Obviously there won't be a penalisation for this as it was my fault for not mentioning the commands allowed in the rules.
The only command you can use in this competition is /tp.

Btw could someone help me out with this (http://www.opticraft.net/index.php/topic,9104.msg80136.html#msg80136) so I can sort out the scoreboard?

I highly doubt that'll happen but he'll have a -250 deduction as he can only use /tp like the rest of us for this contest although he can clearly build a box in any world.
Admins will have a -200 deduction if they get involved as well.

I can't really see properly from the picture whether it does go against the rules or not but I'll take your word for it.

It's not necessarily if it's going through it (destroying) it's also if it disrupts someones build. I must say, from the photo it didn't look like it was, but DAJ said it was and that he had to remove it. If you think anyone can question whether your box is breaking the rule below, best course of action is to probably take more than one screeny to make it clear.

Guys just to make clear... i dont care about competing in this game, even if liked boxing ppl i know even before this game begun. I just want you to not build inside or onto other ppl building to play this! The dice was touching rasmus building and him not knowing the game asked me what to do since it stopped him to go on with is building. This is all.

And last thing Tim... do like Red, officier or the other who boxed me... w8 me to be afk! I don't like to see you trying to box me just becouse i stop moving while im stating banning and undoactions commands. OK?

Also changed the amount an op is worth to capture due to the alarming amount of ops that are getting caught afk. All previous captures with ops will still be worth the 100 points + whatever multiplier they had, but all new captures of ops will be worth 50 points + multipliers.
On the other hand, crafters have been put up to 150 points for a capture due to their rarity and lack of captures thus far (should have listened to MrMonkey in the first place).

They're allowed to do it providing it isn't in spawn (seeing as lobby is effectively the same status as a personal world for monkey and toxic).

When you use the /whois command on an op it tells you if they're invisible or not. However, I'm thinking about changing this rule as it's a bit impractical at the moment.

Dammit turt that must have been a fast cap on me. However, -50 deduction for using two invisible ops which were taken before the rule was cancelled. So an overall increase of 1 cap and no points.

It's been a quiet couple of days in the competition, busy weekend + everyone seems to be wising up to the afk tourny, even if they're not in a team yet. I haven't found someone afk who's in a area I can capture them in for ages (other than guests).
Updated score and added "Varrian" to the list of teams.

This is not as big of a feat in SMP because Optical usually connects to quickly fix something and then goes afk for hours. Capturing him in Classic is pretty much impossible, which gives your team a win.
