Title: Advertising
Post by: Kearnster on May 01, 2012, 06:51:02 am
We should put up a warp for advertising shops, like a room where people put a few signs up for what they're selling and thier home name. ;D ;D

Xeadin I think he means signs that will be up when he's offline and not able to use the trade channel.

Kian,
But then how will people contact the advertiser?

If you're offline, how would you see the signs in the first place? ???

You can only see the signs when you're on the server.

Currently, the live map has its own issues right now...

He's saying people could see the ad on a sign even if the seller is offline.  :P

Ok let me explain:

This is an example,

I'm selling a house for 20k. I go and put a sign up on the "Advertising Place" that is up even when I am offline. It has all the info like how to get there, who is selling, how much it is, and any other info. Then, somebody looking for a house named Xeadin looks at the "Advertising Board" to find a house and sees my ad. Then he says "Wow I totally want that house  :P". He will then Mail me or PM me to get in contact, so we can arrange a time to meet. The deal is over and the sign is removed.

I think that's what he means   :)

I was thinking about a wall with 1 label/player and 3 items for sale.
But, this would be a mess, too.
Now, for the trade channel, I think is kind useless since no everyone is clever to see the [T] symbol.
Some people post that want to buy redstone for example, and directly I post on chat that" I sell redstone".
They keep posting that they "buy redstone" later I do the same.
They never pm me to ask price. It gets annoying..

Believe me. Sometimes I think I will swear on someone. You pm them for an item, and they ignore you on purpose(I belive). Anyway, the last sentence is kinda off-topic, but its relevant with the topic, kinda I think..:P

Gave me an idea for a possible update:
Allow players to hide either Global or Trade chat.
   1) Would be nice to not have your screen spammed when you're off mining or something.
   2) Would allow you to specifically view the trade chat if you're in the market to sell/buy.
   3) Would allow you to not have to see any talk of trade if you're not interested.

And a server message could be added that would periodically message you saying: "Don't forget, you're currently not displaying the following chats: Trade, Global." That way users don't accidentally leave, say, trade hidden and miss something.

Well, Most people dont have their shops open when they are not online, so The trade channel works the best

Indeed.

It would be cool to have a place on the website where users could post what they're selling and how much they're charging.
Find some way to toggle if a players item is on there based on a command like "/shopoff"/if they're offline.

The amount of work that would have to go in that would be absolutely ridiculous though, and it would just be simpler to allow all users to create sign shops, and build a mall for players shops.

Too bad there's no such thing as an easy button.
