I'm against showing where people are on the map. (Or what they say) because it gets in the way. I think it's best to keep it as it is, maybe just fix up the time it updates.
I believe what you are talking about is a Dynamic Live map, and we currently have a OverView map. The map takes 1 hour to render currently so but implementing this dynamic map would cause the server even more lag which wouldn't be the best idea. Also this could cause the server to take longer to restart every time it automatically does it which causes inconvenience to some players. As of this I see now change in the near future or at least ever. Arsenic.(I once looked into this so I know that it most likely won't come around.)
I don't see how it would cause such a lag issue. Opticraft is a 300 man server. Most larger servers like ours have the dynamic map which shows players locations. It's not like we're spying, I thought it was a neat feature.Note, the live map is having issues and optic is aware and has been working on it.
The problem with this is that the live map is not updated enough to show all of the changes in real-time, let alone showing the positions of the players. Also, most of the player base is stuck at the center of the world-- the Spawn.
Hey!I really like the addition of the 'Live map' on Opticraft, but I have a suggestion that would make it that little bit better; add in the location of where people are. In other servers which I have been on, the live map showed where people are, approximately. Could this please be implemented into Opticraft? Thanks!

Well maybe our server is faster then their server but we often have 100+ ppl in our server and even with this faster server, in fact, there is lag. So dynamic map will bring a lot of lag to the server and it is bad for all of us. Quote from: 24kGold on April 27, 2012, 11:27:57 pmI don't see how it would cause such a lag issue. Well it is not that big server but I played in a server called stompzcraft who had the same feature. There was lots of lag although the small number of players who were playing. You said Opticraft is a 300 men server. This number is defined with the upload speed so it is not about lag.(Correct me if Im wrong) while lag appears when the RAM is full just like your computer where RAM is faster then Hard disk and when your RAM is full your computer will open programs in the hard disk which is slower and occasionally your computer will freeze. Plugins take some place in the RAM so there will be less place where the programs will work. This will make the limit where the lag begins sooner and there will be more lag. The dynamic map must be big and complicated so it will cause more lag then other plugins. Btw the servers that you are talking about must have least plugins then us or they have faster servers.I really suck at grammar especially when I write something that I'm not sure so sorry about that. This information maybe 100% true or 100% false so please replie if I'm wrong. Thanks for reading and I hope that you won't be confused

Twice the amount of RAM should be enough to handle this feature, although you did make an interesting point regarding the upload speed. Where is Optical hosting the server from? If it's at home, then the upload speed *probably* wouldn't cope with it, however if it is a VPS system hosted by another company, then it shouldn't be a problem
